The 'surprise random people / fans' concept is quite good, but if only it had a more decent MV like the one for Maroon 5's Sugar (or better yet something like TIHWD's), it would've at least stayed more in her regular listeners' attention. And speaking of Sugar and BD, both have similarities musically and visually, and yet only one peaked within the top five of the HOT 100. Radio deals usually only last a day or weekend. Payola, however, can be legally done in the way of radio visits, contests and appearances at all those balls at Christmas or radio shows at other times throughout the year. Ariana, Katy and Miley were signed up for tons of those types of shows. Also, certain labels have special "relationships" with certain radio groups (like Clear Channel), or with The PDs at big stations. There are a lot of behind the scene deals going on. If it would have had a really good melody and hook, the silliness wouldn't have mattered. Instead, it had neither, so listeners couldn't get into it.
