Rihanna isn't the one to pull out to compare to Ariana. She is a singles AND album seller. All of her albums have gone platinum in the US and she is a legitimate Worldwide artist. Ariana isn't close to accomplishing this, even though she has big hits. Something isn't translating for her to cross over to moving albums. Rihanna is different than Ariana- as she gets hits, her album numbers go up. That's what usually happens. There is some kind of disconnect going on here with Ariana, that can't be explained with lack of promotion, visibility, media attention, videos or airplay for singles. AGLM at 1.3m GGG at 2.8m RR at 1.1m all of the album was releasd b4 2010 so those sales are kinda underwelming except GGG. Loud 1.7m TTT at 1.1m Unapologetic at 1.1m all data are as of 2013. I was looking at Rihanna's albums with some significant mainstream hits (like Ariana has had) and that started somewhat with her second major album release and the third album is what gave her singles that became huge hits. Starting with her second album, Rihanna has had a platinum album with every release. Anytime you sell platinum 6x in a row, you are a steady album seller. Ariana isn't close to that with her last album or this current one. Ariana is not an album seller in the way that Rihanna is. You need to find another artist...one with limited WW sales and that struggles to even make it to gold with each album, despite having 5 top 10 hits, if you want a valid comparison to Ariana. Yes this was her most successful year yet and was one of the top 10 artists this year but just because she had 1 big hit doesn't make her this year's #1 artist nor will put her on the same spot with Taylor(and a bunch of other stars) this year.
