She didn't take off her clothes or dance s-xy or sing songs about s-x. She didn't even need to promote to sell. She didn't have to something she wasn't. She didn't need shock value to be a success. But 2013 and 2014 have seen a big turn-around. The biggest selling single was Blurred Lines, which objectified women and even had an explicit version of the video with topless women. Miley had her own Erotica era. These were two of the biggest music events of 2013. Now 2014 sees a lot of selling out with artists going more urban or pop and now more hyper s-xual music videos that are breaking records. No one thought Miley's record was beatable in a year but it happened and depending on how you look at, the video was even raunchier. No wonder Adele seems nervous about her imminent return - it seems that no one cares for her kind of music anymore. I didn't buy it when people said Adele was going to be the saviour of the music industry and s-x was no longer going to be used to sell because she defied every expectation of artists like her be being a success. 2011/2012 was a blip and there's been many blips over the years. Trends come and go and the public's never going to be all about the music forevermore because of one artist's runaway success. There has always been a demand for smut and at the moment, it seems that demand is at its highest. This is going to be a tough time for music videos, folks. Miley seemed to kickstart an avalanche of bad pop videos after she released We Can't Stop and with the likes of Wrecking Ball and Anaconda breaking the 24 hour view record, these wacky, cheap, awful music videos are going to continue to get made. Thing is, you only have to click on a music video now to make it successful. Vevo gets money for every view and it counts towards Billboard charting. Even a video with the song in the background and push a song to #1 if it goes viral (as did the Omegle version of Wrecking Ball). Keep on consuming rubbish and the music industry will continue to feed you rubbish. I am genuinely puzzled as to why it got this amount of views, though. I'm calling it that there was payola involved for fake views. Miley wasn't a global artist and she broke the record. Nicki is even less of a global artist and now she's broken Miley's record. Remember that Vevo is only available in a handful of countries. Only 8 countries in Europe have Vevo. Mexico is the only Central American country that has Vevo. Brazil is the only South American country that has Vevo. Asia and Africa don't have Vevo at all. Neither do all the island nations in the Carribean and Pacific. So, where are all these views coming from? And the public wasn't interested in Lookin' Ass or Pills And Potions, so why the fascination for this? Her video is embarrassing. How about the people that just don't like the video and song. I do like some Nicki songs, but I just don't like Anaconda. Plus look at how she had to act to break the record.
