they are not stupid, they are not trying to push uncle, they are pushing It because they want album sales ... They know that the song won't go top 10..

IT's because people were not here for the song .. Alejandro slayed with no promo ...  It depends from the song. What I said is true tho .. the songs always need push in USA/UK/Japan and AUS compared to Europe where If a song is played on radio It's a hit ..

Which isn't true. European radios pick up what does well in the US, the UK and neighbour countries. The UK radio picks up what's promoted well or does well on iTunes. Australia, Canada and Brazil radio pick up what does well in the US. Japan picks up what's promoted or has a high position thanks to a big fanbase. South Korea picks up whatever they want and a song can be a smash or not - Call Me Maybe was Top 3 for like 6 months in the international chart.

But let me just explain how I see it with an image, hopefully it helps a bit for you to understand what I mean. If you do you deserve a sticker :toofunga:

So yeah, these are my complex thoughts.

Basically, success in the US is enough for a song to do well in Canada, Australia and Latin America. Japan is a completely seperate market where you need a fanbase and promo to do well. In Europe you need UK, US success and perhaps a little bit of promo for a song to do well and get lots of airplay. In the UK you need promo to do well. At least, that's how I see it.

Agree re Applause, but DWUW is doing better in Europe (or UK at least) than the US.  This is apparent from the US/UK sales ratios;

for reference Poker Face = 6.2 (times more sales in the US than the UK); Bad Romance = 5.4

now

Applause = 8.2

DWUW = 3.7

DWUW is also doing very well in Scandinavia I gather

Ah yes, but I consider Europe and the UK different because well, they're just so different in everything. DWUW is doing okay in Europe, but it has low airplay. All boosts in Europe are thanks to the commercial.

Australia will sometimes pick up stuff from UK that isn't big in North America,

Often songs smash in UK or Canada before the US, because radio is so slow there. Especially pop or dance hits.

DWUW is FARRRRR from a flop WW

Maybe it's just me or does it seem like DWUW is having more stability WW than Applause at this stage, especially in Europe. Did Applause linger in the Top 10 and 20 as long?

Yeah, that often happens. But it's just from observations, I notice that many songs that were local to the US did well in Australia/Canada too and didn't do well anywhere else. There are also lots of songs that are local to the UK, which sometimes become moderate hits in Europe.

Maybe it's just me or does it seem like DWUW is having more stability WW than Applause at this stage, especially in Europe. Did Applause linger in the Top 10 and 20 as long?

No it didn't, in most markets. But Applause flopped and had no promo in Europe. The only thing that caused success was the name 'Lady Gaga' on it and the fact that she has a big fanbase. DWUW is only having longetivity thanks to the commercial, though. I'm sure that if the KIA commercial was aired very often in Europe, Applause would've been a huge smash.

I really, really, really hope DWUW starts to hold better during the weekends now. I'm super nervous about this coming weekend with no video announcement yet. We're so close to Burn right now, I'd hate to see that slip away.

I'm super grateful to KIIS for spinning the hell out of it this week and helping us survive that winter freeze. The top 20 has been so stagnant the past two months. I'm ready to finally see some switch-up's. Counting Stars, Demons, Let Her Go, Royals and Story of My Life have all had their moments. Time to get out!
