Gaga can restore it by going on tour more often, getting a new PR team, releasing the singles that show off her vocal talents, having more acoustic performances and also releasing the Jazz album. If the Jazz album becomes successful, she'll be much more respected. And next to that, I know this is really a bad way of thinking, but the album will probably be Tony Bennett's last album before he dies - he's 89 and by the release of the album he'll be what? 90? 91? - and that will make people much more interested in the album, they'll listen to it for Tony Bennett but end up praising both Gaga and Tony. People are TIRED of these popstars and I've been reading for months people missing Beyoncé among the general mess. She's respected and "4", despite being a commercial failure, helped her to gain even more respect. Gaga needed (or needs, if it's not too late) to take the distance from the other untalented *****S like Beyoncé did. No matter how great a marketing campaign for an album is, if the material itself isn't good enough for people to enjoy, it won't sell at all. So, I'd rather believe that it's her brand image right now that's causing second thoughts for some people to actually purchase. I would rather believe that Applause was nothing new from Gaga and that her Image is hurt, because that is the truth.. The album have some great songs but does the GP know about them ? The GP was served with Applause, then Dope and DWUW is still not discovered by most of the GP ... The GP was served with Venus, and also Aura being the first song on the album with It's AMAZING Intro, wont help either ... Katy overshadowed Gaga in that week, and the next few months everything was Katy > Gaga from the MEDIA.. This also affects the thinking of the GP.. If Applause came out a week later It would've sell 300k+ first week and they would've still say that Roar > Applause but It wouldn't have been like that ... Gaga tried too much showing her diversity, with DWUW (Pop-R&B), J&D (Pop-Urban), MANiCURE (Pop-Rock), DOPE (Pop Ballad), Aura (Pop-Complextro/EDM) and Venus (Pop-Experimental). She performed an vocally bad performance of Applause at the Vma's and she performed a masterpiece, an amazing performance (acoustic) of Applause in a random Japan station, which after all (Japan) is the country which appreciates extravagant performances and electro music the most. I don't know but I honestly find ARTPOP way better than her first two albums (TF/TFM) combined, in terms of producing hits. DWUW alone is one of her most radio-friendly songs yet, if not the most worthy single to smash. The music material itself is more than good to me, but I find the timing to be the main problem. Media has been trashing Gaga left and right for selling 12k less, and big/reliable sites believe things from that one site, like the $25 million wasted rumor. If Gaga had a better PR Team, those rumors wouldn't even exist. Music these days isn't just selling music, it's selling an image. Most people only buy albums if they truly like the artist or the album, I've actually read incredibly stupid things like "yeah if she didn't cloth that crazy I would actually buy her music", and whenever Gaga's braught up in a conversation the first things that come to mind are 'extravagant', 'meat dress', 'poker face', 'pop'. If you bring up Beyonce, the first thing people think about would be 'Single Ladies', 'very talented vocalist', 'Destiny's Child', 'great performer'.
