Arturo 40,746
Miley and 1D are in the top 10 too and their success wasn't in the first half of 2013 We Can't Stop arrived in June and 1D's Take Me Home was released in late 2012 and was still selling throughout the first half of 2013 like Unapologetic + Unorthodox Jukebox + TTAL despite 2012 releases. Tommymonster44 0
Miley and 1D are in the top 10 too and their success wasn't in the first half of 2013 This is true, but the Billboard list still doesn't accurately reflect an artists popularity at any given time. It is definitely fairly close to reality, but still a little skewed. Artists who's album cycle starts at the beginning of 2013 have all year to claim points for the chart. If an artist is on a fall cycle, their peak popularity is split between the 2013 and 2014 charts. So basically this chart isn't being pulled out of nowhere. There is definitely a sense of accuracy to it. You just have to read it in context.

Arturo 40,746
I mean, let's forget Gaga for a second. According to that, Maroon 5 was bigger than Katy Perry this year. that's true... Yup. For example, early next year, Katy + Gaga with a couple more hits to each of their names and ARTPOP + PRISM should still be selling decently, they'll make the Top 10. But another huge star, like Rihanna will probs release a single in September and an album in November and she wouldn't make the list. We Can't Stop was taking off in june/july and 1D album sold like 600K-500K in the 2013 Still more than other artists that released late
Luc 4,775
See, Rihanna is the biggest female artist of 2013 (Taylor's on that list, but we all know she's local) My own list would be: 1. Rihanna 2. Katy Perry 3. Pink 4. Lady Gaga 5. Lorde 6. Christina Aguilera/T. Swift 7. Selena Gomez 8. Justin Bieber 9. Ariana Grande 10. Kesha/Sara Bareilles

Luc 4,775
:awkney: Ariana Grande was pretty big tbh, I didn't pay attention to the charts till August and I thought The Way slayed but really quite a lot of people/straight guys love her Selena had a huge lead single, Come And Get It Christina had two huge collab hits, Say Something is now huge and that collab with Pitbull was one of the biggest songs of the year tbqfh Justin Bieber topped iTunes like 8 times ( ) and got lots of media attention
