I see Firework being a timeless, classic hit. Don't diss that song, it's as big as Bad Romance-fact!

how can you determine that Gaga will last into the future anymore than Katy? Her "popcorn hits" have a lot of resonance, outside of your opinion, with many people, and her most iconic songs will last as long as Gaga's most iconic songs.

I believe it was Linda Perry who actually said it best (and she's got more credentials than me)

'Not saying that Katy is bad; she’s great for what she does, but she’s not reinventing the wheel, she’s not giving substance, she’s just giving microwave popcorn for you to feast on right at this moment.'

Katy is 'not looking to change the world musically.'

But the interview concluded with Linda saying that music focused on the quick money is 'part of the reason why the music business is in turmoil.'

Last part is the downfall of Katy. Capitol's wannabe Lily Allen without the sass, opinion, swagger, or songwriting ability, she is literally a mold ready to happen. I never saw her wearing anything of those weird ass outfits like she started during her TD era (Capitol wants $$$$). Fact of the matter is, Gaga is actually making a change, whether you like it or not. She can start trends with ease, especially in fashion, but even in music. She is the chameleon of music that people wish they could be. Even Katy has admitted her gimmicks -- though she states they're still somewhat her-- but honestly, how many popcorn hits did we see in the 80s and 90s with music "factories" all across the US? Not too many of those artists are remembered, and they were only used for quick cash. Tbqh, once Katy hits her early to mid 30s, her label is going to look for a fresh face to be the new Perry. How many people can be the next Gaga? It's obviously possible, but how many will actually succeed? And even then, she'll have made the influence of what the next generation of pop stars will want to be like. More of an impact IMO.

However, we can definitely disagree on this, but that remains my stance. I understand your point, she's catchy to a younger audience. Maybe it'll resonate for 10 years, but we'll see.

Except those popcorn hits in the 80s/90s weren't flash in the pans so you can't compare them to Katy. Katy is consistently admired for her music, and there is nothing wrong with her music. That's the fundamental problem, and why many people admire Katy over Gaga. Why does music have to be forward thinking and always changing. What's wrong with the current state of music and making a music that just intends to please? And you can't deny that this easygoing music will not stick around for a long time, because I can guarantee you Roar will be remembered a thousand times more than Applause-fact. That's why I listen to Katy Perry, granted that's why I listen to Lady Gaga and because I lean towards the more innovative, why I admire Gaga much much more. And another thing us stans have to realize that this whole language of Gaga can start trends with ease only applied from 2009-2011. We're in a different time now with Gaga's career. Gaga isn't the megamegamegasupermega star she was during that time period.

Thing is to me, I gave "new" Katy a try, I REALLY DID.

After she burned the wig to signify the end of the TD era, I was excited to see if she was finally going to morph into the strong woman that she hoped to portray.

As soon as Roar came out, I was extremely disappointed. We've been listening to the same Katy Perry since 2010, and 4 years into it I'm one of those who are tired of it, especially the bubblegum electro screech pop. Yeah people like it, especially younger people, but who is Katy Perry? I've yet to actually see a song from her that didn't feel ubiquitous, even if it wasn't a single. In fact, I'd probably PREFER it wasn't a single. Roar holds quite a few records, and will probably be remembered more for the sheer fact that whenever I turned on my radio, I couldn't go 5 minutes without flipping the station to avoid it. Don't get me wrong, I liked what she did in the TD era, but there was no need to make an exact replica of it with slightly revised outputs. Her costumes/outfits haven't really changed either, so that's why to me she really isn't the one that people would ultimately prefer. Even Madonna was liked and disliked with her performances, especially grinding on a floor (SUCH CONTROVERSY, MUCH WOW), but it's the captivating factor that's going to make you remember someone. Katy doesn't really captivate me, and I flipped the channel when she was belting out "Hunconditionally" since it was something rather boring and safe, yet again. Whipped cream cherry tits with some sugar, and a leopard bra to boot.

Whew.

Meh, let's just agree to disagree. You and I don't see Katy the same way. Although I agree with you in that Katy's performances are imo awful and cringeworthy, (they captivate me in that way  :teehee: ). But Roar is a pop masterpiece of a song. And I love it just for that, not the same way I love Applause.

I will agree with that...

Especially her performances, I do actually youtube them if I'm feeling down

Does that make me a bad person?  :lolgaga:

Katy is about quantity too..........

How many people 30 years from now are going to pull out old CDs and want to listen to:

"Do you ever feel like a plastic bag"

:lmao:

Well congrats to Katy. I'm not mad at ha but the bad part about this is all the negativity it's bringing onto Gaga. It's just kinda unbearable right now. I mean I personally am here for the music but everytime Katy succeeds over Gaga it seems the hatred towards Gaga gets larger and larger. :/ I can't believe we're in this place right now!

And I also can't believe Venus will be the third single over Gypsy. Surely the era will have at least 4 singles so why not save Venus for fourth? It seems Gypsy has the biggest hit potential as of now and we really need to get some type of momentum going. If Venus underperforms it will hinder the possible success of future singles and cause the album to drop off the charts. I can only imagine the draggings then. Oh good lord...I need something good to happen for our Gaga.

It probably pulls 1k~ a week, Magoo puts some old singles in his estimations and they're always between 5k and 2k. It'll be a slow climb, but it should occur sometime this year!
