1. I thought that DWUW was overhyped; I had a huge meltdown when DWUW became a single instead of Venus but after that decided to be positive and support DWUW. I didn't expect DWUW to slay at all, hell, I even made threads like these (link) back when DWUW's chartrun still seemed very promising. You also said that the ARTPOP album was mediocre/bad, which I consider the same as saying that the songs are bad.

2. The promotion is Gaga's fault as much as Interscope's. But what can you expect when she fires the manager a few days before the album release, 7 months after Gaga broke her hip? Promotion in the form of performances barely do something anyways, although the The Voice DWUW performance helped her a lot. The only thing messy about the DWUW promotion, next to the video of course, is that they didn't rehearse for the first few DWUW performances. Wouldn't surprise me if Katy outsold Gaga, and her album will win from Gaga's album too if Gaga doesn't milk the era. But does that matter? Even if Gaga wins from Katy, the media will still act like Katy and Miley won even if Gaga's outsold them two times.

3. When Gaga makes songs she's not making what's popular right now, but she's either making songs that she thinks will be trendy at that moment or trendsetters - Aura, Just Dance, Bad Romance - or she makes songs that will always be trendy - TeoG, Yoü and I, DOPE. And albums are supposed to be a big piece of work. Things don't go automatically with pop albums, look at albums that took 2 months like PRISM, and then look at albums that took a lot more time, like ARTPOP. ARTPOP is so perfected in so many aspects and so well-thought out at many moments, and the same can't be said about PRISM.

The thing is that Gaga is perfectionist and she always loves to elaborate the things to their tiniest detail which is  not bad thing(sometimes) and she is really energetic persong full with excitement when it comes to her work and very often when she feel the hype inside of her she wants to share it even if it's in the earliest stages...and when she starts sharing with us she usually spoils the things a lot and by the time goes and things change and when we see the product a lot of times it do not live to our hopes and expectations based on the things Gaga said. That's why ARTPOP was so criticized by the fans and the media (mostly the media tho).

 

Early this month we witnessed the exact opposite situation with the surpise release of Beyonce's latest album. Literally no one even the director(idk exactly his status but his the Jimmy Iovine of Columbia Records - Beyonce's label) of her label didn't knew about it only few people she was working with. Which led to a lot of hype in it's release day not only from the fans the media but from the whole world. Everyone were praising it because she delivered so much and felt like it came from nowehere. And the high mettatrafic score and the praise didn't came because she released the 2nd coming of Jesus (don't get me wrong there are some cool stuff but the record is nothing unussual or extraordinary) but because there were no expectations for that album ... u didn't know what to expect so that's why u left after watching and listening to it that it was amazing etc.

 

Where Gaga has been telling that ARTPOP is artistic revolution .... reverse warholian experience since the middle of 2012. She even made statue of her in the process. Saying that she is putting the art in the pop culture etc.etc.etc ..... When the whole album apart from a bunch of songs is just pop album with underground influence. And I personally think that ARTPOP is really her best work to date on par with TFM but the expectations that the album was  carring with it were too high imo. 

And I get it through the process a lot of things change the label wanting more pop sound not so much experimental etc. which didn't let Gaga to release more songs like ARTPOP, Venus, GUY, Sexxx Dreams and also which led to the unflattering changes in song like Swine.

 

I'm still here for at least 5/6/7 single era after Gypsy in Feb > GUY in May which really has potential and more experimental songs like ARTPOP and Venus which also could become big(or not  :excuseme: ) still Gaga do not give up so easly jsut release the damn po0rn tape aka the DWUW video and let the song on it's own so u could perform Gypsy on the Grammyss and slay the world with that international smash

No ARTPOP part 2. If she wants to stay relevant in the biz, she should release just one or two more singles (Sexxx Dreams/Gypsy), take a break, and revamp her music and her image for next era.

Anyway, I thought I would address some of your meltdowns above and set some things relatively straight. I am not here to bash, just to give some info and also put perspective on things.

 

The reason according to my sources why the video is on hold is because, indeed, Terry and Gaga went all out. It's quite, er, suggestive.

 

The problem is that, you may have not paid attention, but there has been a major R.Kelly backlash in the recent couple of weeks. The mainstream has caught on, even though it's Christmas time, and the whole industry, although most people already knew of his reputation, the Village Voice expose with the court documents posted did a lot of damage.

 

Now, you could say that it doesn't matter, and to R.Kelly it may not. His fanbase will still support him, most likely.

 

But for Gaga, who has been re-building her image, to go from Venus to making out with a publicly known pedophile and abuser, is a huge risk. Interscope does not feel it is a good one this time around. Shock value is good, when it's harmless, in their opinion. Also it's Christmas-time, and the timing of a pretty sleazy video being released just as children are getting their gifts from under the tree....eh.... not ideal. There would be hell to pay from the media who would eat this up - Gaga getting it on with R.Kelly on screen - and all the articles would link back to his online mess.

 

The video is being re-worked. I don't think it will be scrapped, though. The Christina event added to the possibility of her being in the new version but it's not confirmed, as far as I know.

 

Now, as much as Gaga is a powerhouse of ideas, she ALWAYS had brilliant collaborators who helped her filter those ideas. The reason why The Fame and TFM did so well is because there was a cohesiveness to that work, both musically and visually. She deferred to her Haus, management and although still ultra active in the creation of the presentations, she had a TEAM.

 

Now, the team is no longer there. Vince is a great guy, but he was always a yes man to her, not a real partner. It was Troy who guided her in the recent years. The industry was buzzing after their breakup. For Troy to give up his cash cow was unthinkable. Don't make the mistake of thinking that Gaga could just break that contract herself. She does not have THAT much power yet. Interscope owns her hand and foot, it's a 360 deal. For them it was an Event Horizon, not in a good way. So for Troy to depart, and before the cycle started, meant that Gaga was truly acting out and taking the reigns and was impossible to handle.

 

I am not saying it's always a bad thing to walk your own line, but on that level it's very hard to keep an even head. I think this album and the whole era show a lack of cohesiveness. Even BTW, with its flaws, still had an element of 'that something'. People loved or hated it and still do. Some in the fan base are now waxing nostalgic about it. Most people in the GP just don't really...care.

 

Anyway, here's to hoping things will turn around and Gaga acquires a brilliant collaborator/partner/strategist in no time.

Ugh, my country is so weird though. On TV Gaga is always set as the example as a big popstar, she's always put as a person to compare to and she's seen as the biggest popstar, but in reality her career is a gigantic flop here.

This country is such a big potential market Thriller sold 1,4M here and 21 sold 500k here. Why can't Gaga just go promote here a lot and build a big fanbase?

People here don't even care about Gaga anymore she's become like Madonna (everybody knows her and her biggest hits, she's a huge name, yet radio and the GP don't care about her music) and she only needed 4 years for that
