Foivos 64
PR on Z100 would be more beneficial than KIIS since KIIS is whoring out christmas songs. But I'll take either one right now lol KIIS tend to support songs while they are dying like Applause so don't expect PR in KIIS soon!

Whispering 18,865
No, it's not. I didn't even care about charts when MTN happened. Of course the video will have impact, but will the impact be as big as the Work Bitch or Applause video at this point? Will it rebound into the Top 10 in a few hours after the video release? And let's be honest, even the 'actual' chart experts like labels and people who do it as their job didn't expect Applause to last long. But what I have learnt from Applause is that any song with good airplay will have longetivity. A video can help with iTunes position, but it usually wont be that significant or that long term. The best long term game changers are commercials or radio play. Nothing beats those two. Luckily, DWUW is continuing to rise and will get into the top 10. Then we will see if it starts picking up even more, as more and more radio listeners start to hear it several times a week.
GagaMyBlood95 9,899
Once Dark Horse's video is released we're doomed Take your time, Katy! yeah, but Unconditionally definitely made it's damage. It took out lots of BIG promotional places, like EMAs and AMAs..

Whispering 18,865
I though it was longer tbh, my fault. The song had fallen a lot before the video though... Whatever there are still a lot of examples to prove my point. The thing is that there is no need for you and me to make early conclusions because we can't really see behind our nose. Wrecking Ball was at #59 on Pop radio and hadn't reached its official adds date before the video came out. WB had been in the iTunes top 10 for two weeks (including #1 for a while) and sold 90 K in its first two days and 200K the next week, with little to no airplay, when the video came out. The Wrecking Ball video came out very early in the song's cycle, but the song was doing so well on iTunes already, and with the VMAs hype, they decided to capitalize on the controversy of the year in Pop music. Luc 4,775
A video can help with iTunes position, but it usually wont be that significant or that long term. Then we will see if it starts picking up even more, as more and more radio listeners start to hear it several times a week. Don't underestimate a video, a video is in my opinion the best long-term promotion besides the 2 you named. Having a good video helps you a lot, how else would Work Bitch be #53 with no promotion, no airplay and no commercial? And that's a flop. Not only do videos help in sales long-term, but they also help in airplay long-term. All promotion should be seen long-term, and in that way I would rank promotion this way (promotion in hands of the artist, not the radio presenters, etc.) 1. Commercial - see DWUW in France 2. Youtube video - this is good for the song's airplay, a way for the artist to be exposed to different people via sharing and good for sales. Some people watch a video and like the song a lot more, Bad Romance for example wouldn't ever have smashed as hard as it did with a bad video. The song would've gotten much less sales, resulting in less airplay, resulting in less sales. 3. Youtube/iTunes banner or commercial/exposure - having a song in the Top 10 on iTunes or having a banner on iTunes helps a lot, and having your song as an ad on youtube helps even more - see Dope. Front-page exposure on youtube is a way how many people discover videos, and banners are another way. 4. Radio performance (like iHeartRadio, Jingle Bell Ball) - this just helps a lot in airplay, this is good for airplay and getting more people exposed to the songs via airplay, usually radio presenters will play the songs more to hype it too. 5. Promotional performances - this can range from AMAs to GMA to VMAs to Grammys to SNL to Music Station. Any performance can boost songs, but with DWUW I've noticed that promotion does not help songs that much, it, however, helps songs stabilize higher and helps a little bit in more airplay/respect/social media for the artist if the performance can create a lot of buzz. This is looking at the US and the UK only, in countries like Japan and Taiwan performances would probably be the #1 way of promoting. 6. Name - nobody can sell on name alone: look at Britney, poor sis' album debuted at #34 in the UK. You can't do extremely well on name alone, nobody can. That's why you need to promote. But it still is a way for people to notice the song, radios will pick it up faster if its by let's say Katy Perry and the GP will be more interested if a video is by lets say Miley Cyrus. This doesn't apply for Gaga that much (anymore) though, but Top 5 iTunes exposure thanks to her fanbase is a lot. 7. Radio interviews - this boosts airplay, simple as that. And can get you a few more fans. 8. Tour ticket giveaways - having radio stations giveaway tickets for a tour is a very good way to get radios to play your songs more often in my opinion. It really helps. 9. Interviews - of course, it doesn't help that much. Did we see any noticeable boost after Ellen? 10. Media/buzz - it totally depends. The AMAs and SNL created lots of buzz resulting in more sales, but it doesn't help that much long-term. The buzz dies very fast. I created it by myself, I know Billboard made a list like this but I disagree on a lot tbh.
