We found out with Applause that her singles have to climb with radio play + promo and not just sell off her name like BTW did. Now, we're finding out that she's going to need to sell ARTPOP with big hits. Not solely off her name like she did with BTW at first. Just like The Fame I see. Thats what sold that album were the big hits. It's like back to square one for her, as if she rlly is starting all over to work.her way (hopefully) back to the top. Of course it would be nice, but as long as it doesn't start completely plummeting in the next week, it's past the point where it can't really be called a "flop". While smash hits are seen as the main drivers in moving sales, I noticed that's generally not the case - particularly among lead singles or pre-album singles. Blurred Lines is a massive hit, yet the album barely sells. Call Me Maybe was a massive hit last year, and yet CRJ's debut album barely sold at all. For now, same thing could also be said towards Bangerz and PRISM. The success of lead singles (and pre-album 2nd singles) no longer guarantees the success of the album. It now all depends on the post-album singles on whether they can convince more consumers to actually spend. But the trick is, successful post-album singles also heavily (not entirely) depend on the chart performance pulled by the pre-album ones. ARTPOP doesn't have that luxury of a smash lead single for others to depend, leaving no other choice but to completely depend on the performance of its future singles. But I'm still putting my money on the video I kind of lost faith in a nice video boost because of the whole vevo banner thing no longer existing. On the contrary, I seriously find myself in an absurd conviction that once DWUW couldn't get a new peak, then it'll double the challenge to get another top 5 hit for the 3rd single. While TTT and P!nk's latest album proved it otherwise, those post-album hits they've earned were among the most, if not the most, radio friendly songs from their respective albums. And between DWUW and the rest of ARTPOP, one's the clearest hit to me. Or maybe I'm just wrong. I don't know. This situation just makes it imperative for me to see DWUW within the top 10 at least. The whole VEVO banner thing no longer existing is something I'm still not totally convinced about. Unconditionally has pretty embarrassing views, but What Now has pretty good views. iPop 0 Posted December 8, 2013 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Just a general question since I haven't payed attention as much for DWYW compared to applause but do you guys think DWYW will grow enough to make it to billboards top 10? I mean it's been out for awhile which makes me nervous but then I see unconditionally is still out of iTunes top 10 too and I feel better haha.
