Track-By-Track ARTPOP Commentary by Lady Gaga

I find it so interesting that Gaga says her articulation was affected by marijuana last year, and her general demeanour was a bit distant and not "all there", because that's exactly what I thought around the time of the FAME promo. I didn't know it was a result of weed, but I noticed she was different. This also coincides with her lip injections and those strange MonsterVision videos she posted. I wish we could go back in time and talk to her about it. :(

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

1. ARTPOP without the text, wow

2. Listen to her diction now compared to an interview from 2008 lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSPQqTqpIcI

Her valley girl tone lol.

Literally her first TV interview and 4:24 "I'M ITALIANN" LOL

3. Gaga literally saying "I'm a power-bottom" LOL

4. Gaga began writing Do What U Want "in Chicago"... go figure :usrs:

5. 7:49.. you kidding me with that bm volume?

6. She calls ARTPOP the swan song of the album.. I remember everyone discussing 'swan song' at one point.

She says she worked on it the longest of all the songs. The only song on the record she didn't want to explode or orgasm, she wanted it to hypnotize people and become like a mantra she says...

7. She says Swine is like an excorcism

8. Donatella is about playing satirically on public perceptions and being misundestood, 'making fun of the words they say about us' 'instead of allowing it to make us feel smaller, shouting it from the rooftops' . Turning the adrenaline of criticism about specific parts of you into something positive

9. Smoking weed helps her 'forget that she's famous'

10. Dope is about being addicted marijuana.. numbing her body and spirit 'living high for like a whole year, maybe longer' 'making it hard for people to talk to' her

11. Began writing Gypsy.. finished it with Madeon. About what she thinks the key to staying in love is; not changing the person

12. Applause is about being an ENTERTAINER, not FAME

omg that interview

6 years later and she still talks about the same topics

I guess she hit rock bottom with weed during the lunch of FAME. I mean, those interviews  :eww:

Kindness rules all.

I don't think we even know if she did weed then, but the :eww: ?

You mean the hyper-ness of her? I think she was riding on the excitement and the newfound fame, and just free.. she became a lot more self aware, considered and calculated as her fame grew..

It's interesting now to hear Gaga **** all over the beginning of her career saying that girl was just an empty vessel.. but I think she might look back with some poetic commentary.. and a lot of her issues were likely internal and hidden to the ones around her if this is the case.

Now ARTPOP makes a whole lot more sense. I'm starting to get what she meant by saying we should take ARTPOP as a one thing. I hope the app and Act II will further this idea even more. Really proud of what Gaga pulled off this time

This was very interesting and quite enlightening. It's great understanding the thought process behind the songs. But it also highlights the problem with the album.

How are the fans let along the GP supposed to understand all the hidden and sometimes obscure meanings behind the songs when it really needs her to explain them in detail.

One of the biggest complaints about Gaga is that her music simply doesn't connect with people anymore and this showed why.

It's a bit like telling a joke. If you have to explain it then it hasn't worked.

Having said that I love the album but that's probably because I haven't tried to hard to understand it and just enjoyed getting into the beats and melodies

She sounds so serious. And she is really honestly with her d--g addiction and fears.

i mean....she always seems so strong. but when i hear those things...

Well.. i heard this a long time ago  :awkney:

anyway, her explanations made sense.  I think this was neccesary for people to understand the bigger picture.

So cute when she sings little bits of the songs  :flutter:

The section where she explains the timeline of the last year with her weed addiction was really interesting , it really put MJH and Dope into perspective

I mean, pretty much everything that she said could be gathered by the lyrics themselves. In other words, just because some people (like yourself, as you said) don't feel the desire to look for meaning beyond the beats and hooks shouldn't suggest that there is no meaning there. I can't count how many songs people just love to sing, without having a clue of what the piece is about.

This is why the album is great, imho. It's very fun and sounds carefree, but every song has a more subversive theme, and the subject matter is intriguing in and of itself.
