She might not see her that way, just like Judy didn't

But she will go down in history as a gay icon.

She is a gay icon, when you're straight and you say you like lady gaga people think you're gay

And i think she lost a lot of fans/public because of that

I'm just tired of being categorized as gay just because I love Lady Gaga since the very start of her career...

She's not a gay icon, she defends her rights (that's a very good thing !) but gay things are not her whole business. That's not because she did an album like BTW that all her career have to be centered on gay things. The proof is that no song is about gays on ARTPOP

I repect all of this but that's just annoying to be judges as gay just because I find Lady Gaga soooo talented ! People are annoying...

She is trying to distance herself from the Gay community. She is more than just a singer to the gays and lesbians. She needs to create broader appeal.

For me I think the comment was a subtle reply to the snarky gay critics(mostly Madonna fan) who have accused her of "fostering" herself upon gay people and being a voice that no one asked for- yes these are all things I've seen people accuse her of, so I'm guessing that's why she's "distancing" herself from the icon label, like letting everyone know she didn't push herself on the issue like people seem to think

All accurate. She's directing these words at s**t like this, y'all: http://kayleeismysoulowl.tumblr.com/post/46652672493/transcript-this-is-gay-pride-not-lady-gaga

That is not true though. When she accepted her VMA in 2009, way before BTW, she said "this is for God and for the Gays." She marched in the National Equality March before BTW came out, as well. And she organized the call-in on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" back in 2010. She has been a supporter of the gay community - doing the things that led to her being called a "gay icon" - since before BTW.

On OP, I don't really care about the difference between "icon" and "supporter." As long as she supports, then that's all I ask.

I think she's basically implying she isn't comfortable with the word "icon" because it suggests being "above" people. She's always been uncomfortable with referring to herself as an icon/legend, etc.

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

Then what did the whole "I'm every icon" stuff mean?  Or did she not herself say that.

But she's not calling herself the icon. She said all the icons from history are her "colour palette" for her art. That's what she meant by saying she's "every icon"...
