Bad 32
If ARTPOP sells less than Prism, we will get DRAGGED by the KatyCats. If it sells less than Prism and debuts at #2 ATRL's servers would explode

Mills 446
The torture of ARTPOP possibly debuting at #2 isn't acceptable at any cost. It's a scary thought, and if it does happen, whoever is in charge of scheduling of album releases in Interscope shall forever be blamed for this. bumblebee 2,528
Gaga doesn't seem to be that interested in the big debut. For some reason, most likely to achieve some longevity in sales which we didn't witness with Born This Way (63% of the total Born This Way sales come for the first 4 weeks) they are trying to have the first week sales driven by the hardcore fans and casual music fans who would buy this album on the first week anyway. Later she seems to be kicking in some promo with SNL, Ellen (don't know if it's confirmed), AMAs and The Muppets Special to attract wider audience to the album. She is also doing tons of radio interviews. If we're lucky, she will appear on some morning talk show this week. Her major announced promo for ARTPOP is concentrated in the first 3 weeks after the album release. Here what we should be looking at: if we don't take in 440,000 copies sold for $0.99 via Amazon, the decline of Born This Way sales was: 74% between the second and the first week43% between the third and the second week32% between the fourth and the third week. If ARTPOP shows better numbers than those above (declines less from week to week) than her promo is working fine. If we take the current Billboard prediction together with Born This Way decrease ratio, we'll figure out the pessimistic scenario for the first month album sales, which is from 453,000 to 529,000. I repeat: these are the most pessimistic numbers for the first 4 weeks of sales. Anyway, since the album is out tomorrow we have nothing to do but wait, slowly melt down and buy several copies of ARTPOP (digital + physical). Greenshortz 0
I'll probably have to take a 2 week vacation from this sight if ARTPOP debuts less than #1 my meltdown and those around me will be too much.
nick4bty 2,758
I really feel like people are underestimating Gaga's physical selling power. Billboard made this projection based on almost entirely online resources and data, but there's really no knowing how many people will go to a store and buy her album. And just because someone didn't buy Applause doesn't mean they won't buy the album. Just because someone didn't watch the video a thousand times doesn't mean they won't buy the album. And the media exposure part is bull****. As is comparing it to contemporaries (which I'm guessing is Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus). Physical CDs are still the biggest component of sales, and Gaga is a strong physical seller (we've seen this with The Fame and Born This Way). Yeah, those colorful covers could really draw attention in any store. Not everybody that sees the album will buy it, but they will at least look at it.
