I mean, someone has to be there to manage the business side of the release, and there isn't enough time to find a new manager. The Spice Girls fired their managed in November 1997, when their album had been out for A WEEK and they had their movie premiering all over the world one month later. The Spice Girls at that point were the biggest band in the world, yet they went and fired their manager the same night they performed and won at the EMAs. Those girls were crazy. Gaga is crazy. It wouldn't surprise me. Contracts mean very little when you want to fire someone.
