Internet stan culture breeds fans who only watch the sprinting races, where it's all about who does things fastest and breaks records in the short term. EG. getting the most VEVO views in 24 hours is something which is quite insignificant in the long-run but gives a short buzz on excitement and achievement in the short-term. What people should be looking at is the long-term. Who's got the most stamina? Who's going to "win" the marathon? (I guess here I'm talking about pop music in general, not Katy and Gaga so kinda OT and also I don't think it's a race, but I jut thought this was easiest way to put it). Literally nobody who is a major player right now will still be so a decade from now. Rihanna, Katy, Gaga, etc. will all be dragged for trying to hold on to their past successes. Most of y'all are the first generation of kids who have a bunch of idols who won't last past their first decade. It speaks to the disposable nature of their material. Gaga, unfortunately, will be lumped into the rest of these girls despite the fact that she had the most potential. She came out at the wrong time.
