The second one will be allot more interesting if it has a new director especially I guess we will see but a director can change so much if you think back to harry potter cross over from chamber to askaban.

As long as the new person doesn't make it cheesy. I hope they'll let Collins co-write the screenplay again so she has some measure of control over it.

what particular cheesyness are you afraid of?

yeah, as a general rule, the author helping to write the movie adaptation can't hurt (helping = collaborating with someone who knows movies in particular)

Cheesiness in general. Making it campy. Going too over the top with the capitol stuff in comparison with the arena. Ross did a nice job of balancing the nature of the capitol with the slums of the districts and the brutality of arena.

Yeah, maybe you can tell the directing was good specifically because it wasn't noticeable.

writing my THG fanfic from Gale's point of view; this is the introduction, pre-reaping.

I saw Katniss through the fence. I moved silently into the woods through a hole in the chain-link. It was a poor idea to disturb her at work, which was a sight to see. With a bow in her hands, she moved with a grace all her own. Arrow after arrow found its mark in the woodland creatures.

“Gale!, †I heard as she lowered her bow hand. Well, if she could detect a squirrel, she certainly could detect something nearly two meters and a hundred kilos like myself. We walked towards each other for a cordial embrace. She’s shorter and thinner, but has grayish eyes, olive skin, and dark hair, as did most of us from the District 12 ‘Seam’ slum. “Your snares did almost as well as my arrows. Almost.â€

We shared a common heritage, and something more that we couldn’t quite identify. Four years ago, we met around here in much the same manner. Our fathers, who had taught us our respective hunting arts, had recently died in the same coal mine explosion. We were still raw from the pain. As a practical matter, it made the hunting bounty even more necessary, so we each feared the other’s competition. We each had feared being reported. The government of Panem wished to starve its people into submission, so what we were doing was most highly illegal.

A couple centuries ago, the world had been battered by natural disasters and the subsequent wars. Panem rose from the ashes of a northern continent, those remnants being divided into a Capitol and thirteen districts. The Capitol’s rule grew harsher, and the more you tighten your grasp, the more districts slip through your fingers. Seventy-four years ago, this broke out in open rebellion. To me, the Capitol’s phrase “Dark Days†referred to a light brutally extinguished. All suffered; District 13 was entirely obliterated. Capitol masterminds seemed to take sadistic glee in what they did both before the war and after.

Thinking ‘after’ shocked me back to the present. The centerpiece of their torture was the annual Hunger Games, where 24 children (a boy and girl from each district) fought to the death. Tomorrow was Reaping Day, where officials chose at random who would receive the ‘honor’. At eighteen, this was my last year. At twelve, my brother Rory’s first. Twelve! Katniss harbored similar worry for her sister Primrose, whom we all called Prim. Katniss herself was in the middle.

We sat down in the grass at the top of a hill, reflecting upon the impending doom. Katniss opens, “I wouldn’t want to have children, condemn them to the reaping too.†I couldn’t blame her. It was already hard enough to have your favorites in the Games only to watch them die. As it is, there was already no way to escape the specter of the arena.

I have to admit, I'm worried for Catching Fire now that Gary Ross isn't directing. Gary's vision for the first movie was so perfect and exactly how I'd imagined it in my head reading the book.

I hope the new director will try to keep the essence of the first film. And GODDAMN, please don't **** up the casting of Finnick. And no more shaky camera, that really bugged me.

many of the observations are simply accurate, and funny too.

some of criticism is fair enough - I like THG, but want to stay levelheaded about it. However, I don't want to lose the fun by overa--lyzing it either.

I'm seeing the movie again on Sunday. Even though I didn't love it too much the first time, I love the book and I LOVE Jennifer and Josh so much that I WANT to love the movie. I have the saddest life ever.
