Can't wait for the 4th, I get sad when I see DWUW at #16.

Also, do we get the ARTPOP iTunes stream, DOPE promo single, and DWUW radio release on the 4th?

The radio release on the 4th will either: 1) Backfire majorly because the song will have already fallen into the depths of itunes and never be revived 2) All the success (Radio/Streaming/Downloads) will be concentrated on one specific time period 3) A little bit of both

But Wrecking Ball had a similar release tho. Hit #1 hard, free fell, got a radio release a few weeks later, became Miley's biggest hit

It seems to me a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to having a lot more feedback about DWUW (including critical reaction) than Venus (which is largely unheard), to switch the single.  There was the option to stall the choice of single a mere week to allow Venus to be revealed and see the reaction first before making a final choice.   Unless that is there was a deliberate plan to announce one single and switch it, with the thought that the publicity would give a bit more attention to the album by doing so.

Judging by the sound of Venus, Interscope probs couldnt wait to switch it anyway :rip:

Why did I spot so many grammatical errors? Also factual errors.... :awkney:

Fücking bûllshît about her having control over singles when she practically cried on LittleMonsters chat about how she had to compromise with Born This Way because Scheiße and Hair weren't singles LIKE SHE WANTED and the fact that they chose Applause. This is a sack of crap.

Interscope may have renegotiated her contract prior to ARTPOP production and given her that capability...after all, how much $$ did the BTW Ball bring in? I'm sure she had a lot more leverage after the final numbers came in

Interscope must have Heard Venus already, so should have been on the page of the original decision and announcement.  It almost suggests Gaga chose Venus and this is the mechanism that Interscope have over-ridden her with.

Do people here not know how to read?

They looked at fan reviews, critical reviews, and instant response from programmers. Not just iTunes.

Little Managers doing the most.

per usual :coffee:

Well we aren't but you might be.

She may not have complete say, but she does have the final say. They can't force her to release a single. She could always just quit if it came to that, but like hell Interscope wants to anger Lady f*#king Gaga. It would be one the stupidest mistakes in all of pop history if they had to drop her over a stupid single choice dispute. I'm sure they wanted her to make it the single, but they couldn't force her.

And I'm also sure that since critics and her fans (what she actually values the most, not that of charts like many here seem to think) responded really positively to the song (and probably more positively than she would of thought they would) she decided to share it with the rest of the world. Because let's be honest, this was a PROMO single. It wasn't played on radios, nor was it advertised for sale. I'd estimate 90% of the people who bought it and made it #1 were her actual fans, not the GP. This is a great song with an extremely strong message, I think the GP deserves to hear this f***ing masterpiece. I also think after seeing our reactions to it, Gaga believed the same thing.

This is a PERFECT post.

Because honestly, to the people saying it should have been chosen prior, clearly the singles arent chosen months and months in advance, especially if she was finishing the record up until two weeks ago. After Applause didn't hit maybe as BIG as they were expecting, they probably figured something more dancey, and similar sounding to other tracks, would benefit, but when she saw how people reacted to DWUW, she chose to release that.

She has always said she wanted to do more than just pop, to really make the world see she is capable of more. She saw that and went with it. Nothing wrong about it.

Interesting, glad her label has spoken up about this. Making DWUW as the 2nd single was a wise move but it was still a disappointment, disappointing in a matter that the label is still the same when it comes to scenarios like this and hyping the fans for nothing. Could've been better if it was the original plan rather.

And the lies here :smh: Gaga has a full control from choosing singles? Bullshit, we aren't stupid.. seriously..

Sometimes life is like that

Also, contracts can be renegotiated, so don't jump the gun that you are being lied to...happens all the time

Gaga chose DWUW as 2d single because of the great reviews and not just because the sales figures. She is not stupid

I doubt it. She's very  close with her managers, I can't imagine them backdooring her like that. All indications point to the fact it was her decision, and her fans need to accept that.

Recording contracts are strong, there is never an easy out until the terms of the contract are complete.

Radio and exposure drives iTunes sales, not the other way around.  I swear people watch charts so much they forget that charts are the reaction to reality, they don't drive the reality.

I loved reading this. SO interesting! I mean we already kind of knew all of this but just seeing it in one place and having it told as a full story was fascinating.

Love how it's been universally praised, both commercially and critically.

Can't wait to see what happens!

Agreed!
