There's no way to tell without hearing the whole of Venus, but if DWUW had been originally announced as the second official single with Venus as the promo single, it could have been the other way round once Venus slayed itunes.

I suspect this is an entirely Interscope-driven decision based on the safest option in the US; while Gaga would have gone for a higher risk but potentially more legacy-making release.

Hmm.. if I were Gaga I'd cut all promo singles and stick to releasing snippets through social media and streaming the album on iTunes. She's got appearances coming up, interviews, performances.. I'm guessing a video for DWUW will be rush-released. She doesn't need promo singles. She should save Venus for later.

Can't she still release Venus as an official single later?

i think they should have tested the waters with venus before jumping into any decisions....sigh...

And the lies here :smh: Gaga has a full control from choosing singles? Bullshit, we aren't stupid.. seriously..

In the past, no. But this time she did- she's said all along the choice of second single was hers, even when it changed. In the past when Interscope chose the single she said so, too, so I think we can trust that.

Interesting I'm looking at my radio stations play list and they seemed to have played DWUW several times today

Maybe they're testing it out, since its new territory from Gaga.

Interesting, glad her label has spoken up about this. Making DWUW as the 2nd single was a wise move but it was still a disappointment, disappointing in a matter that the label is still the same when it comes to scenarios like this and hyping the fans for nothing. Could've been better if it was the original plan rather.

Well we aren't but you might be.

She may not have complete say, but she does have the final say. They can't force her to release a single. She could always just quit if it came to that, but like hell Interscope wants to anger Lady f*#king Gaga. It would be one the stupidest mistakes in all of pop history if they had to drop her over a stupid single choice dispute. I'm sure they wanted her to make it the single, but they couldn't force her.

And I'm also sure that since critics and her fans (what she actually values the most, not that of charts like many here seem to think) responded really positively to the song (and probably more positively than she would of thought they would) she decided to share it with the rest of the world. Because let's be honest, this was a PROMO single. It wasn't played on radios, nor was it advertised for sale. I'd estimate 90% of the people who bought it and made it #1 were her actual fans, not the GP. This is a great song with an extremely strong message, I think the GP deserves to hear this f***ing masterpiece. I also think after seeing our reactions to it, Gaga believed the same thing.

im glad to read the whole story. a lot of people on here were doing the most assuming they knew why dwuw was chosen as the single.its nice to read the facts.

You're right but I'm still skeptical. Maybe I just don't wanna think like that? Because even I'm thankful they or whoever bet them did that it's still a sad thing..

Alright, fair enough.

I'm sad that we won't see the Venus video right away, most likely. But I'm excited to see what happens next with DWUW, too.

Yeah, no one would become nonexistent between her and Inteerscope when it comes to such happenings like that, BIG decision making.

No lies told on your post, but everything could've been better if everything was planned more wisely in the beginning. Well shit happens anyway and like I said I'm still grateful they maneuvered it.

The 4th only seems far off because we follow every moment, every day. I don't think it's too late at all. Most people haven't heard it yet, I'm sure.

Good read.

fede ARTPOP

So it wasn't just about the charts, they looked at fan feedback and critical reviews. Very interesting!

It seems to me a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to having a lot more feedback about DWUW (including critical reaction) than Venus (which is largely unheard), to switch the single.  There was the option to stall the choice of single a mere week to allow Venus to be revealed and see the reaction first before making a final choice.   Unless that is there was a deliberate plan to announce one single and switch it, with the thought that the publicity would give a bit more attention to the album by doing so.
