I don't want to get ahead of myself but I see DWUW as a crossover smash. Like Bryan said, I can easily see it blowing past 150m AI's due to crossover appeal.

Agreed.

Ugh stop, Venus would not do well right now. DWUW is the perfect second single choice, it'll warm people up to her upcoming stuff. Do we not remember Judas or was that not "risky" enough? DWUW is going to soar on radio

Really? Comparing Judas that was released amid religious controversy during Easter time and when Gaga's cool factor was on the decline with BTW??? Let's not go there, radio isn't everything, and you're forgetting the rest of the world. We don't want her to become a local US artist now do we?

Maroon 5 has proven to become the epitome of a turntable artist, but Gaga hasn't. It's because there's still a lot of hype around her (a hell of a lot more than M5 ) But I think it will have a very steady sales run. :)

Let's hope so 'cause if it does I'm ready for Venus to be released upon this unsuspecting planet :whitney:

The only song I REALLY want to be a single is Sexxx Dreams.

Same. I'd be so happy if it's released as one down the road.

I'm gonna wait until we hear Venus in full to really judge if it is radio friendly or not. But from the snippet I don't think it's nearly as radio friendly as DWUW is. But we'll see.

There is a time and a place for risky singles, though.

But if we wait for risky singles as the third, fourth, or even fifth singles, the album era would be winding down. It's only logical that (unless you're Katy) each consecutive single will have less hype around it. And when a risky single would fail because it's been left for later everyone would blame it because of its riskiness...

DWUW is definitely going to raise her "cool factor" though. She's receiving acclaim from different types of music listeners, why kill the buzz with Venus? Radio is definitely a huge factor though.. and from what I've seen the WW reception was pretty good. I'm here for Venus being a single but just not now.

There is a time and a place for risky singles, though. The second pre-album single, and the one that sees the album through its launch, is logically the worst point in time to take a leap of faith. And what's a "highlight" is purely a matter of opinion. Most of the non-Gaga fans I know on another board I visit went bonkers for DWUW--and commented on how much of a departure it was for her and her "brand" (in other words, a risk for her--"risk" is a relative term) and were giggling and talking about how she dodged a bullet when they heard Venus this morning.

You have to make these sort of decisions dispassionately, if you're looking at it from a purely commercial perspective. Gaga's label isn't worrying about which song is artistically best or most meaningful, or which she poured her heart and soul into. They're worried about promoting the album and broadening a fanbase that has become increasingly narrow.

Again, I'm not even trying to defend DWUW from an artistic perspective (I can't resolve my own feelings about the R. Kelly feature, if I'm being honest). But I'm with Nick, I actually think it sounds like her biggest smash in ages.

Well said.

Sounds like there are many contenders for singles in the ARTPOP era. The few songs after TEOG, BTW, and YAI from the BTW era were only "single worthy" by this FANBASE.. when in reality hardly anything was single material on that album :deadbanana:

I don't use this gif sis, but your opinion deserves it:  :tea:

"The song hit No. 1 [on iTunes] in 64 countries," Dennis Dennehy, head of artist strategy and media for Interscope Records, tells Billboard.

"Interscope basing their strategy on my cheap ass site" - Kworb

*I still don't understand 1D's appeal tbh, they're #2 on iTunes and their albums will be released in not less than a month

*Its a good thing they're probably free fall by the 3rd-4th week.

I'm really anxious once DWUW is released well, for now it's been weird with the restricted video and released as promo single. And it better damn well smash or Venus will never see the light of day :excited2:

She really was right. She's written amazing songs, has upped the ante and has a smash album tbh. She deserves so much more success than Applause-grade success which was great in itself.
