It used to be that CMA of a lead single was typically 15-20% of the first week's album sale. This was for people who only purchased the single(s) and then bought the album on its release. But now the figure is increased because singles delivered under an album pre-order now also count towards sales until the album completion. For Roar, I make the CMA was -88K, say that was from 57K conventional completes (new album sales @ 20% x 287K) and 31K from negated pre-orders. If say ARTPOP sells 500K then we might see Applause's negation as much as 100K from new album sales plus say 120K from preorders making -220K in all. That will affect the digital chart and the total accumulated sales, but the CMA will not affect Hot 100 position because the returns are added back in.
