It may not have been finished until then, but the lead single was changed after her injury. Plus, Gaga said last year that the lead single was produced by and up and coming female producer. She has been foreshadowing it for months. The Alien voice, shell bikini and even the entire album cover hinted toward Venus. And I remember reading somewhere that if Applause didn't exist, she said Venus would have been the lead. I don't have time to source all this but I am almost positive.
