Bambino 24,103
Whoever is against this article, guess what, he studied art, you didn't. Such a legendary reply
PoshLife 16,925
Where is the sinister and darker? I honestly just felt he was saying things cause the words felt funny to say, unless he is speaking about the Portrait of Koon's and his ex wife. But really... He was speaking about the portraits. It was in the sentence about the portraits. Was that not very clear? "The images are gross or amusing depending on your sensibilities at first, and then become darker and more sinister the more you think about them." Didymus 34,379
Just LOOK at the comparisons he's making. Google them and you will know that they don't make sense. You don't need an art degree to check the claims of someone else. Sorry, Will Gompertz - BBC and Times Arts Editor. And you are?

DriverMonster 10
Because Koons is not a great artist. I'm sorry dude, you're getting praise for producing a Christmas ornament and making it your own by calling it a gazing ball? F off! This review is a MESS. His references don't make any sense most of the time, he's basically praising it for the copying of innovations of previous artists. I don't trust it. Jeff Koons is not well liked among art critics. The Warhol and Emin references are hilarious It's just delusional, I'm sorry. He can't even spot the sculpture that's in the black and white part of the cover. He clearly wrote this in five minutes or he's just being satirical or something, since NME hates Gaga.
hausofaxel 16
Wow, it’s crazy how positive that review was! I’m so happy for Jeff and Gaga!

zexion_armando 241
He was speaking about the portraits. It was in the sentence about the portraits. Was that not very clear? "The images are gross or amusing depending on your sensibilities at first, and then become darker and more sinister the more you think about them." I read the pullquote the OP had posted, which spaced them out, as so His shtick is to play with our perceptions of fine art and pop culture: to make the low high and the high low. His Michael Jackson sculpture is one example, as are the ****ographic portraits of him and his then wife La Cicciolina, the Italian **** star, making out. The images are gross or amusing depending on your sensibilities at first, and then become darker and more sinister the more you think about them. Koons’s art asks questions about values, taste, capitalism, reality and beauty. They are designed to appeal to our eyes and mess with our soul - and his new Lady Gaga cover perfectly fits that mould. After seeing they were one paragraph, I realized what he was discussing. Either way, the end of that sentence made me vomit slightly
Didymus 34,379
He doesn't even notice which sculpture is in the black and white part of the cover. Seriously.. Finally a real authority speaking on the issue. Jeff Kunst 0
This review is a MESS. His references don't make any sense most of the time, he's basically praising it for the copying of innovations of previous artists. I don't trust it. Jeff Koons is not well liked among art critics. It's not copying, its intertextuality.
Didymus 34,379
Except that the "great authority" everyone's praising is obviously thinking he does What kind of bull****. Koons has said many times that his art is purely decorative and has no hidden meanings.
