tbh, these numbers do not mean much. In today's standards, BR ad PK would have gathered over 150M AI, perhaps even close to 180.

Applause is a moderate hit compared to those, I would compare it more to Love Game and Alejandro than JD and Paparazzi, but it has demonstrated to be a grower and have longevity, and I am very happy about that cause it's really a good and catchy song.

I think Gaga and Interscope were smart for releasing it as the lead single, given there is a span of 4 months between the lead single and the album. it was a good testing ground for people's reception of Gaga and her new music after the hiatus and it probably gave them a better idea on how to promote the album and choose the forthcoming singles.

For what matters, Gaga hasn't done any considerable promotion after the itunes festival, focusing more on finishing ARTPOP. She added songs, meaning that she and interscope believe these additions will help the album. I also think she is being smart for not overpromoting ARTPOP so much in advance. Any overexposure can really backlash. Yet, I do believe she needs to start building up the promotion in the weeks that lead to the album release; if she releases the cover and AURA next week, the tracklist in 2 and a strong 2nd single in 3, and start making TV appearances again a week before the release, she should have garnered enough momentum to have a strong album debut.

Now that's what you call a Slow-Release single. Act all basic, but then when the mofos have their guard down, brutally murder Johanna-style. Legendplause slayyys. :gaga:
