True, but I don't think it necessarily NEEDS to be number 1 hits. Accumulating a significant amount of top 5 or top 10 hits could be just as appealing as a nice introduction in the press.

And a lot of legendary artists barely have any top 10 hits, so....

Though I must stand corrected that raking #1s isn't necessarily needed in cementing a strong legacy (as proven by a lot of legendary rock bands from Pink Floyd to Queen to The Rolling Stones to Led Zeppelin), I find having more chart-toppers more memorable than having countless top 5 or top 10 hits. A number one is still a number one after all in the history books, isn't it? There's a handful of exceptions to that such as Thriller and perhaps even Bad Romance - but almost all the most successful solo acts of all time are the ones who earned the most #1s in the Billboard HOT 100 chart.

He'll probably get mad at Gaga for selling ARTPOP on amazon. The chart rigging!!!!!

That was pretty smart of her. Caused a lot of fans to buy duplicate copies to ensure the foil cover.

I hope tomorrow we can get #8 on billboard and another solid radio update, with z100 keeping it in PR to close out this singles last week.

It'll pass poker face tomorrow I hope on mediabase

This.

I saw an ad for Janet Jackson tour few years before and she's being labeled for having hundreds of #1s.

Katy will be also remembered for her tons of #1s.

Gov Hooka

I'm starting to think that Applause's chart performance might have been hindered by Bill Werde's dislike of Gaga. I mean that one week she dropped to no. 9 and has stayed there ever since. Also the idea that billboard can decide the percentage of streaming/airplay/sales points for each song. Something's up...
