It'd be kinda stupid to "avoid competition" at this point. I mean, they went ahead and released Applause a week early. Maybe they thought Gaga would do better. That makes a little sense. Maybe they don't want to waste all the fan sales before it becomes a single, but that would only benefit them if they planned on Aura being the second single before the album release.
