It is the industry's standard day to release new material. My guess is that Capital just found it much easier to release PRISM on the regular day and not have to mess with logistics as much. Of course, a distinguished super star such as Katy has the ability and importance to release it on whichever day her and the label feel like, but I'm assuming releasing it on an odd day requires extra planning.
