Back to the maths

The popbar figure of a song on itunes is proportional to (i) its daily sales if it is selling continuously + (ii) any sudden new sales.

So Royals is selling 40K/day means that a new song suddenly matching it on itunes must sell 40K.  Since DWUW has suddenly reached 1.000 vs 0.3696 for Lorde, it must have sold 40K x 1.000/.3696 = 108K as some of you have calculated already.

These sales appear in 2 parts:  About 21K in the first hours after release and then a sudden 87K.  The 87K is a measure of ARTPOP pre-orders which delivered the song automatically.  If the remaining 21K some will be fans who had preordered ARTPOP but downloaded DWUW early and some will not have pre-ordered at all.  If half did each then the number of ARTPOP preorders on itunes will be about 97K.  And you can add on physical preorders via Amazon on also...

If DWUW sells nothing more, then it will decline at an exponential rate so will reduce by a factor of the math constant e after a day relative to other songs, so 36% will remain after a day (which will be the about equal with Royals).

Of course there is gonna be dark red updates lol there's no way that kind of momentum could keep up when it mostly came from pre-orders. I pray it can stabilise at #1 somehow even only for the rest of the day! But it has definitely done it's job of promoting the album :legend:

Paper Gangsta

preoder effect is gone, it should fall to ammount of sales by fans now and stabilize for few days, then fal to ammount of sales by gp

Dark red as expected, but not a big drop as shown by songs that aren't increasing:

3 Lorde - Royals 0.3735 0.3696

So it got a pretty good chance to stay in top 3 for the rest of the day :Exited2:

ARTPOP pre-orders will definitely pass 120k when its all said and done.

but still royals sells around 40k a day not in every update

meaning that if there are around 10-11 updates daily, royals sells around 3-4k during those gaps

I wake up and DWUW is #1 and ARTPOP is #14  :worship:

(but DWUW got a red update, hopefully it can stay at #1 for a while after the pre-order effect)
