I believe that I don't have inflated expectations for her though. I agree with you on the whole experimental cooky side vs. casual/relatable thing, however music is subjective and the only objective part of pop music we have is the charts. Considering Gaga's past career and everything, she has developed her own standard of success and I just want her to match that success. It's not like she let me down, Charts don't govern my life, it's just that I want to see her do really well as an extra perk. Lowering her to a new "normal" of 2x platinum is something that I think she can do better at, especially considering this is her first music after 2.25 years. Also, you are arguing that applause is the new normal based off of nothing except its own chart performance. However, my argument is actually based off of past sales, and in my eyes, Applause underperformed in comparison to the past sales, for lead singles. If this is what the new normal is, then unfortunately, this represents a Gaga in decline. I don't want Gaga to be in decline and for me to except her sales and be satisfied with them is representative of me accepting that she is in decline rather than wanting her to achieve a smash with Applause.

That's my point.  Her standard success isn't shooting out consistent number ones.  Her first three singles of her career went number one because she was the new "it" girl.  That's all.  Born This Way was just an unusually popular fluke because she had so much hype coming off of TF and the VMA's.

When you actually take a look at her discography, she isn't a number one artist, but a top 10 artist.  Her first album had three number one's and a top 10.  Her second album had three top 5's.  Her third album had a number one's, a top 5, and two top 10's.

The stan perception that Gaga is a fallen star that used to have an endless string of massive smashes but now can barely scrape a hit is a delusion.  She had three exceptionally popular singles during the first few months of her career, and then has consistently had top 5's and top 10's ever since.

She never was a number one artist.  She's always been a top 10 hit maker.  The media just pumped everyone up during the first few years because she was the latest big thing.

the video should come same day as the song tho : (

ikr. the fact its not filmed means it wont be out until like the end of november probably. i hope she still has the staying power to last a month without a video.. :awkney: applause certainly didnt.

britney was rushing to edit her video and even then it was like 4 weeks total editing time, so Venus will need to last at least a few weeks on its own

The Fame only had 2 #1 singles Just Dance and Poker Face. Love Game was number 5 and Paparazzi was number 6

#8. The VMAs had more of an effect on sales than the video iirc

Wehave to have faith in Venus though. It'd be pretty sad if she had to release the video the same day as the single for Venus not to "flop." What is she gonna do for the singles after the album?
