Gov Hooka 8,008
But sales have nothing to do with talent. Sales have to do with name brand, and promotion, and the GP's perception of you. No amount of promotion will ever help Gaga as long as she stays true to her artistry and personal beliefs - which happens to be exactly what keeps her as the outsider in mainstream pop. Talent only takes you so far. Talent, in some ways, is subjective. Thousands of people around the world are talented... yet Katy Perry and Rihanna are on top of the world. Britney, as talentless as she is, was on top of her era. Manufactured, MANiCUREd acts have always ruled pop. Gaga is an anomaly. She isn't conventionally beautiful, her music is conventionally relatable, and she isn't cool the way Miley Cyrus is trying to portray herself now. In my eyes, Applause's performance is magical after what the BTW era did to her. We can stop here, though. We have totally different outlooks on what it is that Gaga should or should not be able to do. No I completely agree with you there. It's just that I would like to see Gaga being on top of the industry just because she is my fave. That's what all of us stans like to see. There's nothing wrong for rooting for her and realizing that she could do better here and there. And there's also nothing wrong with objectively looking at her career from the standpoint of the music industry and wishing her success from an economical perspective. In response to the rest of your explanation, how do you explain Adele? EDIT: Forget about Adele. I have a feeling she will never slay again after 21. Kevbev 453
Gaga has a lot of obstacles in her career as a pop artist. Not only does she have the disadvantage of being perceived as a "weirdo" since the BTW era, thus not a s-x symbol, she has less core demographics than the two you mentioned. She has less radio support, obviously. Her songs aren't designed to be multi-format hits like those two. Most of the time, only pop radio supports Gaga. So when you see that Gaga is selling half of Katy Perry with half the airplay, don't take it as much of a surprise. It's not 2009 anymore. Gaga is not the it girl anymore. Your high sales expectations put stress on the people in this thread and negatively affects people's perception of Gaga even more than it already is. I don't know where you come off saying Gaga has the same advantages as Rihanna or Katy Perry. She obviously doesn't. Well said.

In response to the rest of your explanation, how do you explain Adele? EDIT: Forget about Adele. I have a feeling she will never slay again after 21. Well, idk about Adele. You can definitely say that she wasn't polarizing or ugly. And the whole "she's fat, but she's talented" thing definitely played in her favor with the GP. 21 was also one of the most relatable albums... ever. It was about heartbreak in its purest form... no gender, race, or other premise involved. And I feel you. We're all here because we want to see Gaga somehow skyrocket to the top again. That won't happen unless she releases a song that plays all of its cards right... a song that crosses all preposition about Gaga and Applause was definitely not that song. I knew it the moment I heard the leaked snippets. Its longevity is like a plus to me now.
