Well I think it was just a joke but to be honest thats just a number.. the truth is nobody really like applause only her fans do and people who really like it arent that into it but its #4 just because its Gaga. "People don’t make albums anymore. They just try to sell a bunch of quick singles. Artists put out an album, then they put out a new one. People don’t even listen to a body of work anymore." And the expectations are mainly set by the image of Gaga that is stuck in our head since THE FAME MONSTER times when she was almost ruling the world. We have been waiting for ARTPOP for well over a year, her self-labelled 'comeback', where she said each song could be hit. And don't get me started with the promo shoots she kept tweeting... And I agree with you that good music doesn't always mean commercial success, but we should be reminded Applause is the lead single from her well anticipated era, and this is Gaga we are talking about.
