As I said before, preordering has a lot to answer for. I wouldn't mind if it was used occasionally, but right now, everyone's doing it, including some major artists, and it's just not fair or even makes sense. The whole point of the charts is to show what was most popular this week, and this week alone. Not what's been popular for the last two months but been kept on the down low until now. It's only giving even more ammo to those of us who think the charts are completely irrelevant. Quite a few #1's this year were the result of preorders and Calvin's headed the same way this week, also with a preorder. Rita Ora's new single is out at the end of next week with a preorder and there's plenty more coming up. If I had my way, this preordering nonsense would be done away with. It eliminates the entire point of charting, means fans have to wait and the public end up illegally downloading.

Agreed. Pre-order makes sense for albums, but for a single? That's just ridiculous.

Exactly, and preordering only makes sense if you're buying a physical copy. That's why books, DVDs and CDs use the system, whether it's in shops or online. It lets the manufacturers and distributers know how many copies to make and distribute according to demand, so that no one runs out of stock at a crucial moment and customers take their business elsewhere. But preordering anything digital is pointless as digital copies can't go out of stock. So, people preordering digital singles like the labels want them to really baffles me as they gain nothing from doing it. It's obvious it's just a label's manipulative way of keeping popular artists popular and making struggling artists look far more successful than they actually are. I mean, I love Ariana Grande's Problem and I hoped it would get somewhere in the UK, even if it was just top 10, but when I saw that it's was up for preorder here (and will be for the next two months), my first instinct was to think this song can go die in a hole. When a label so badly wants me to fall into its trap, it makes me want to say no just to stick it to them. I'm surprised more people don't do the same.

It's getting to the point now, if you want a #1, just put the song up for preorder for 2 months for a date with no major releases and smack it on radio, and it will pretty much get it.

Anyone think G.U.Y can still make top 40?

The UK Charts are a mess we need to bring streaming into the charts!

The US chart is the opposite extreme - Pharrell #1 for 10 weeks.

I believe there was one period recently, where top 7 was the same 3 weeks running.
