Sam Bailey outselling ARTPOP's debut week despite it being a cover album, her first single being the second lowest selling winner's single in XF history, winning one of the lowest rated XF seasons and her new single not even charting. Shameful. But then again, I doubt it would have sold this well had it not been released on Mothers Day week. At least all those 67,000 ARTPOP copies were obviously bought by fans who enjoyed it. Sam's album was bought as a Mothers Day gift with absolutely no thought behind it for 73,000 mums. No way is it going to sell well after this week and she doesn't even begin her tour until 2015.

Notice how having a hit single isn't any guarantee for a successful album like it used to? The Saturdays had their first #1 (and their biggest selling single at that) and a further top 10 hit preceding their album and it only peaked at #10 with less than 10,000 copies. Despite Pharrell's Happy being one of the biggest #1 recently and his recent successful collabs, he debuted with very disappointing figures. Shakira had Rihanna on her lead single and managed to get a #11 out of it, her biggest UK hit in 5 years, and all she gets out of it is a #14 album. Now everything is so back to front - the artists with poorly performing singles are ruling the album charts and the artists with successful singles can't shift an album. I'll say one good thing about Adele - she certainly got people to get their finger out and actually buy albums. 2011 was a phenomenal year for all record sales. For once, the anti-piracy crusaders didn't have much to say.

Poor gags can't sell either  :noparty:

I'm actually worried that it's so low.

Do you think her team will put up a pre-order for g.u.y next month?

As I'm thinking.. people that have the album on itunes already have G.U.Y so they can't buy it again.

Nope can't see it, they would have put it up for a pre-order when the video premiered if they were going to

To think that despite her shortcomings, she had the second fastest selling female album of the year (and Beyonce only beat her by 2,000 copies) is mindblowing. Female artists had ridiculously bad sales in 2013. Quite a few major stars and anticipated new ones, yet not one of them debuted with 100,000 or even close to it despite some of them having #1 singles at the time. Meanwhile, your typical blokes that women go nuts over just because of their looks (Robbie, Gary, 1D) all managed to debut brilliantly and have prolonged success. It seems there's no loyalty towards female artists, particularly pop artists. Already we're off to an odd start this year with someone as famous as Kylie debuting with less than 30,000 despite all her Voice promo and someone like Sam Bailey of all people, debuting with higher figures than any other female in 2013. I don't know what caused this shift, but for some reason, the public no longer think female albums are worth buying unless they're by someone "credible" who doesn't use s-x appeal to sell their music. It's a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

No solo females in UK top 18.

Just Katy with a rap feature, and Jess Glynne as guest on a couple songs.

I'm surprised Katy isn't on that list, seems that the Brit performance didn't boost the album extraordinarily high

PRISM is the 27. best selling album of 2014. Quite bad tbh. Considering Roar was a huge hit and Dark Horse was also quite big.

27 - 24 - 52,750 - Katy Perry - Prism - 287,250 - 02/11/13 - 7

She won't end up on the Top 40 best selling albums of 2014.

Happy I heard G.U.Y for the first time on the radio today, think it was on Capital in the UK.

BUT.. really annoyed the DJ cut nearly half the song off towards the end, he literally stopped playing it and said 'right thats enough of that'.. making fun of the 'touch me' 'touch me' part..
