justalovegame 0
I just hope ARTPOP could sell more than 250k first week The meltdowns that would occur... If 218K were here for the debut of the single, it makes you wonder how many are here for the debut of the album.. So basically . . . the blackout hurt her. The Gaga buzz a year ago compared to now is alarmingly different. Even when she didn't have new music out, people still talked and cared about her. Now, a year later, it seems like no one talks or cares about her. Applause just wasn't the right first single. Simple as that. Sure bring up its longevity but lead singles are (usually) supposed to smash and be the biggest hit of the era. Usually. Her time off wasn't that long and had she come back with a better song, she'd be way better off.
Mills 446
I just hope ARTPOP could sell more than 250k first week Same here. Below 250K or even 200K would really be painful to watch. But if it does, in the worst case scenario, let's just remind ourselves how TD opened with 192K in its first week but still managed to sell over 2.8 million after three years - all thanks to its singles. The more one lengthens the era, the more opportunities to keep selling albums (even in small ounces, at least it's still selling).

Applause is no different than Just Dance, in that it's a carefree song people can dance and have fun to. It's the way that Gaga is going about this era that is eliminating any chance for buzz. Foivos 64
Why are you saying that ARTPOP will sell 250k? I am sure that Interscope will not let its biggest star sell 250k first week... A huge promo is being prepared for the album and if the 2nd single is good it will get a great boost. And just remember.. Itunes preorders are ~ 50.000 and Amazon preorders will be like 50.000 so 100.000 is sure just from preorders. I predict 600.000.
Mills 446
And as much as I hate to say this, but I think we also have to acknowledge that the after-effects of the BTW era, particularly the abrupt cancellation of its tour, played a huge role on the noteworthy decline of her fanbase-driven sales draw. I believe it's not really the song itself, it's the fact that Gaga is coming off from a polarizing stage in her career. I mean, regardless of how she chooses the "right" single, how sure are we that she would have a bigger opening sales than she did with Applause? And we also have to factor in that she's directly competing with someone who's coming from a complete opposite era, in terms of how it was received in the commercial side . Luc 4,775
Lorde is not popular overseas. I think she will fall in the next 4 weeks. People in Europe are here for artists like Lorde tbh, Birdy and Adele are gods here and Lana is very successful too.

Blues 0
When HDD make these early predictions they're often way off, remember that they predicted 700-800k for Teenage Dream and it ended up with less than 200k. Prognosticators are divided on whether Perry’s album will surpass Eminem’s Recovery, which bowed at 754k, to become the year’s biggest debut.

ryhanna 3,507
That's so true. Just look at the reception her perfume got last year and the reception Applause is getting. The huge difference is very noticeable. Huh, I've never thought about that. But it's true. Is it because of the blackout? Something loco's going on here. True, usually artists like them first get famous here in Europe and then get popularity in the US. I'm surprised that with Lorde is the other way round

Applause is no different than Just Dance, in that it's a carefree song people can dance and have fun to. It's the way that Gaga is going about this era that is eliminating any chance for buzz. Just Dance is on a whole other level than Applause those. The production, the lyrics, the chorus of JD >>> Sure it's just a party song, but it had that appeal that Applause lacks unfortunately. And as much as I hate to say this, but I think we also have to acknowledge that the after-effects of the BTW era, particularly the abrupt cancellation of its tour, played a huge role on the noteworthy decline of her fanbase-driven sales draw. I'd rather blame the single than the fan-base driven sales. Otherwise, I'll start worrying about the album lol.
