Without the streaming rules though, Applause wont peak at #4. Let's just be thankful they have changed the rule.

I can't even be pressed about The Fox. It was not written to be a good song, it was written to be bad in a funny way. It was literally someone trying to write a meme song.

I'm going to be having a laugh at the clueless American media over the next few months though, you know they're going to build this guy up as the next big pop star just like they did with PSY.

Absolutely. I can't say I'd buy the song, but I definitely see the appeal it would have, especially among young people. If it becomes a hit, it deserves to be a hit.

Avicii's wig is in danger

Watch it get a sudden burst of consistent dark green updates AGAIN :deadbanana:

If Billboard is going to count youtube views, they may as well count every time the KIA commercial aires on TV and all 10 million viewers during the VMA's. It's no different from watching a music video on youtube IMO. It's a stupid ass addition to the formula.

it sucks though, because if streaming counted back in 2009, gaga would have had bad romance/telephone and maybe even alejandro have hit #1 on the HOT 100, those videos had monstrous views for weeks on weeks especially when the songs were peaking

You guys, consistency matters more than #1 hits.....

gaga has 3 #1 hits right? But songs like telephone that peaked top 3, didn't have to go #1 to outsell most singles that have hit #1, hallf of rihanna's #1 hits barely hit 2x platinum

It's obviously because it is the biggest streaming site rn.

Youtube have also helped tons of artists like Gaga, even before it was added in the formula.

I think it's fair.

Esp. that they can now detect fake views.

How if one chooses to watch a youtube video? (not the same as commercials) I agree with Billboard (just not the 30 sec rule that caused Harlem shake to go to #1)

Judas could have also enter the top 5 and top 10 for MTN. :fan:

uhmmm... are you sure about that claims on Rihanna's #1?

I chose to watch The Fox. Does that mean I like it? No. I watched it because I was curious. I buy music, request songs, and stream on paid services because I like the music. Billboard Hot 100 should be based on what songs people like the most... not which songs are getting the most attention.

YouTube is different. Artists actually earn money for views, which they don't with commercials or performances. Streams are equatable to sales in that way. And as someone mentioned earlier people choose to watch a video.

I think it a great and fair addition. YouTube and music videos are very influential (oftentimes more than radio) in a song's success and deserve to be counted.
