Next week people will start bashing Katy again when Walking on Air pushes Applause down.

Early week - "Why do people even like Katy... The song is horrible"

Mid week - "Gaga needs promo or second single ASAP"

Weekend - "OMG Applause longevity is amazing :legend: "

Yeah, singles are meant to promote albums which are meant to promote tours. This is why Ke$ha has 9 hit songs in the US (if you count Right Round) and an estimated net worth of only $8-$10M while Gaga has close to $200M.

People freak out about everything I swear :lmao:

Remember last week when Britney, JT, Bieber and Katy all released their singles and they all passed her at some point? Everyone was freaking out calling it a "flop" and saying the song was over and was going to fall out of the iTunes top 10 by the end of the week.

People just need to learn to calm down and think over things logically. A reasonable response to a not-great pop radio update is "Hmm, this could be trouble if this continues over the next few days" rather than a lot of the responses I've seen in here :rip:. Especially since the overall radio update was not bad.

It's become pretty obvious that Applause will fall on its own and not due to other songs pushing it out. and lol @ someone saying selena gomez numbers. wut?

See? Why would she promote for a single that's peaked already.

Yep tours is where its at for artists. & on top of all that, Gaga writes & co-produces majority of her songs. Very smart & talented business woman :legend:

It's science, bitch

"Same Love" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert, which ranked #19 last week, tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. It's more than halfway to matching Lady Gaga's equally gay-friendly "Born This Way," which has sold 3,932,000.

Reach that 4M already. :'(

"Peaked" is an interesting concept though. 95% of the population does not look at or generally care about charts. The only people who care about charts are stans and those in the music industry. This why Britney's manager can get away with saying "Work Bitch has gone #1 in 42 countries" without being challenged by most.

People gauge whether a song is a hit or not by how often they hear it on the radio, how many of their friends know about it, how often they see people on their social media accounts talk about it or link it etc. This makes it possible for songs to never achieve top 5 status but still go multiplatinum (Selena Gomez has a few songs that have done this, Fall Out Boy's latest single is probably the best recent example though) without having huge sales weeks.

Not saying that Gaga should go schedule a bunch of promo performances or focus a lot of her energy on Applause still, but you would be surprised how much a song can sell even after it leaves the top 10.

honestly safe and sound, blurred lines, summertime sadness, and wake me up need to get out of the top 10. they have long overstayed their welcome.
