Applause should have been released in early July. I know she wasn't still ok after the surgery, but at this time the only competitor was Blurred lines, so she could have gone #2 easily. And what's most important, the difference between the first and the second single would have been around 4 months which is super.  I fear that releasing a second single before the album will kill Applause and it still has life in it.

Yeah I also think the single was released too late. And it literally came out of nowhere.

Since Ballad Perry is coming for single #2, I really think Gaga should follow suit and release a ballad/mid-tempo song next. Maybe Gypsy? Or Do What You Want (if it's mid-tempo)?

A ballad/mid-tempo song from Gaga where you can hear her amazing vocals. I wouldn't mind that

Ballad perry? Hope it flops like thinking of you. I think it'll be the next wide awake though:smh: Gaga better get used to second position :fan:

As for mid tempo Gaga I'm here for her releasing her best song ever: ARTPOP.:Gaga:

  The more reason why I'd still wish for her to release (or at least push) the 2nd single until the start of 2014. Applause is clearly growing, and just like others have already said, the worst for them to possibly do right now is kill it by releasing a second single that would take away its growth on radio. If they want to build momentum for ARTPOP, there are always the promo singles to do that job.

Agreed too.

You know. US is not the only country in the world. Its nice that she is stable here, but Applause is almost everywhere out of top 10. She needs those worldwide sales. So the next single must come before the album.

According to this Jeff on twitter, the ballad Katy wants to release as a secong single is soooooo good and "Teenage Dream" of this era, so she's probably gonna smash. But we'll never know for sure so let's just wait and see.

That's why I've been thinking of a possibility regarding a non-US international single similar to Eh Eh, given the dilemma on whether to focus more in allotting more time for Applause or building momentum for the album itself via a second single release. But I doubt she or UMG would even consider that idea. They want to maximize whatever first week sales the pre-album singles will have, but maximizing it might turn out just a short-term solution (drum up sales worldwide), rather than a long-term one (ensuring longevity).
