craig 680
Promo singles are good. - used by Gaga and Taylor when they sold over a million. - give exposure to other top songs besides lead single. - make impact on itunes that gets other pop music fans talking, We're dreading Katy's promo singles because we know theyll be effective, give her attention and take it away from Applause. Then some who disliked Roar like the new promo single.
jhonyguy04 3
We're flopping in iTunes now for some reason. :-(
Mariano 958
Instead of promo single, Gaga should just release the 2nd single In the end of October. Then the music video closely to the Album release + performances at SNL etc... Katy is trying to pull Taylor Swift Red, Gaga did that before both of them with BTW now she should use another tactic :)
bumblebee 2,528
And the connection between the album sales and the singles sales sometimes is even absent, and the music industry is full of such examples. You can't but remember Gotye, Carly Ray Jepsen, who sold over 7,000,000 with songs and were not that successful with the album performance. Even Katy Perry - which seems to be surprisingly strong in the USA - had a huge singles time with latest album: I mean, damn, she got 5 number ones, 3 more top 10 hits, and I remember 3 of the songs from Teenage Dream to top 5,000,000 in paid dowloads, had huge radio presence, and yet it took her 3 years to sell 2,743,000 copies of Teenage Dream in the USA. Doesn`t that support the value of having 3 or 4 singles (including promos) in Top 10 before the album, rather than put all you stock in one mega-smash. Gaga likes to perform sets of several songs to promote the album, so might as well get them out as promo singles too.

I would love to agree with you, but the idea of spamming the iTunes with songs from the album that are not even going to be singles (Hello, The Edge of Glory ) in order to get attention of customers, while there are more effective tools to push the record sales seems a bit cheesy to me. Why not to put them on Spotify or Youtube, just for free, before the record is out? So that anybody could listen and, in case, take the decision to buy the whole album? Inb4 Gaga puts them out for $0.
Marco 731
I don't really like the idea of promo singles either but she needs to do something to create some buzz because Applause isn't holding up.

Americano 31,061
Ugh can't they release something? Gaga is being so lost in the shuffle I can't even You'd think this era hasn't even begun without the buzz
bumblebee 2,528
It's been a month since Applause came out. I'm here for discounts got to do what we gotta do No f**kig way! Please. We need to get that 1.6M - 1.7M from this song before the album is out, than it will eventually reach 2M. It's not like we're aiming 5M by October, we can get away without discounts. If she keeps pushing 150K per week we need 6 more weeks, and it's OK.
Marco 731
Aura would be a perfect promo single, it leaked anyway (unless the studio version is completely different) But then again there's a chance of a promo single completely overshadowing Applause. bumblebee 2,528
By the way, do the rumours of Gaga performing on THE VOICE US have some ground?
