I'm not a professional - why does it matter so much between rush and planned release? I feel like only fans and maybe some other people really know about the official release date. Doesn't the majority get to know the songs because of radio or fans sharing it to friends?

 

And even if Gaga had planned more promotional stuff for this week - she has been in the media before because of the Aura leak, her promo pics, the art video etc.

 

(I do not want to say that the sales are disappointing - to me, the worldwide numbers count. And the only thing I want is Gaga to stay some weeks in Top 10 and not falling off like HIAM or POM etc. - everything else is just a premium to me that makes me even happier).

It's not a black and white issue. There's "smash hit" and "flop" on two opposite ends of the spectrum and then a whole lot in between. 200k in the first week under the circumstances isn't mind-blowingly great, but it's no where near bad. It will probably gain more popularity after the VMAs, video, etc, but even if it doesn't, we're still looking at a hit song -- just not one of her very biggest hits and that's okay!
