Then your an idiot.

Before you start insulting other members intelligence at least learn the correct grammatical term of "your" - it's "you're" in that context.

And 200k is a flop for someone of Gaga's caliber.

Whatever lol, I listen to the song, watch the video that's about it, think more people should do that.

Bad Romance debuted with 142.000, it was later when the song exploded, people here need to stop b---hing, it's so annoying.

Its not surprising though. Its only surprising to the people that deluded themselves into believing her star is as strong as it was 3 years ago. This is the reality of her stature now and its not really that poor.

I would have not considered it as surprisingly poor if it'll end up selling close to 300K with a full week availability but the official sales projections do not say so. If she does end up selling around 200K, it would be comparable to the debut stats of the likes of Demi Lovato.

First-week sales are often mainly (and even solely) driven by the core fan base, not the casual mainstream fans or radio. And with this news, it projects that LG's core fan base could no longer deliver huge opening week numbers like it could before. And that's what comes off surprising for some.

I still don't find that surprising. Her core fanbase isn't as strong as it was 3 years ago either.

Economy

For a rush-released song from an artist that released nothing in 2 years and has to rebuild her popularity this is pretty good!

Also this means more sustained sales as radio airplay rises so she may get #1 later

Lastly the US is only 1 Country... World-Wide sales are what matter cause thats the total... And Gaga still beating Perry WW

So chilax ppl... It's actually doing quite well!

People really need to get out of the Little Monster bubble for a second and think. Had you not read every tweet, announcement and piece of news about the release, you wouldn't have known the song was out. Other than casual radio listeners that probably have a 10-second span for judging a song and moving on to the next radio channel + the iTunes banner, there has been no major outlet that she promoted the song on.

Give Gaga some time to do some promotion, then we will talk. To the general public who don't watch every interview and video she uploads, she's gone from the eccentric fun sarcastic character of The Fame to a dark place that people can't relate to with the last era. She needs to win some of the casual listeners back to blow up again like she did with Born This Way initially.

Trust the artist.

Wooot. Great debut numbers. :D

This may not be such a bad thing... Katy Perry is still more fresh on the GP minds so they jumped on her song faster

This means as more ppl in the GP get used to the song and remember Gaga again more ppl will buy the song later

This means Applause will have more sustained sales for longer when it reaches its peak on the radio at the same time giving her a chance at a #1 later!

Can I just say how nice it is to see some positivity around here for a change... thanks guys. :)

@pokerface don't forget a lot of sales are also made by less hardcore fans... Ppl in the GP that really like her but are not obsessed enough to keep up with her every move

After 2 years of no releases a lot of these less hardcore fans kinda forgot about her and she will have to win them back

Katy Perry on the other hand has been away for less time and still on pols minds!

I partly agree. But each of our reaction to this news, whether we're surprised or not, is purely subjective anyway. And I do respect and understand your take on this.

I just think maybe now people here will start looking at her more realistically than continuing to think shes on the same pedestal she was before. Its humbling everybody hopefully.

It does. Prior to the release of Applause, only a handful were expecting Katy Perry's Roar to actually debut bigger, well at least within this fan base. And now, the exact opposite is happening. It's surreal.

Why anyone would've thought Lady Gaga would beat out Katy Perry this time is beyond me. I'm pretty sure that would only be people within this fanbase, if at least predominantly.

John The Gypsy

Wow, I was expecting at least a 350 k debut.

Still really good numbers considering she's barely coming back from a media blackout, has only done about 2 radio interviews here, & the radio deal hasn't happened.
