The numbers are okay considering the rush release. I wish they stuck to the original release plan instead of panicking because of the leaks.

These sales aren't even bad.

 

I think people are forgetting that every artist has a peak single in their career, Born This Way was obviously that for Gaga. It doesn't mean that her popularity is declining in general, it just means that members of the general public didn't buy it instantly.

 

AND it was rush-released. The majority of songs released by major artists these days are high debuters. They simmer away for weeks and end up being major hits. Gaga has the VMA's coming up. I can guarantee that Applause is going to be a massive hit record this summer.
