It's not going to take a song that's not a hit and turn it into a hit. We have to be honest with ourselves. We all love the song, but it's an album track. It's not a hit. Only time will tell if Interscope made the right decision by choosing a lukewarm song that would either slowly ramp up the public for a more experimental second single, or that could possibly just damage her reputation even more. I realized today that people aren't necessarily sick of Gaga's theatrics, but they are sick of having the theatrics painted over songs that aren't hits. Although we care so much about the performances and the fashion, most people don't. They just care about the music and want to listen to a good song. Gaga hasn't released a good song for the radio in a long time. And that's why her reputation is going down. ARTPOP was supposed to change that, and I believe Gaga when she says the album is filled with radio friendly songs, but Interscope chose the wrong single. I hope Gaga can recover from their bad choices. This. Applause is a good song, but it is not a comeback hit on par with Poker Face, Bad Romance or even Born This Way. I find the song rather insipid and I am getting tired of her putting out mediocre songs - Judas, You and I, Marry the Night and masquerading them with theatrics, a poor man's pop Bjork. In every ARTPOP interview, I am tired of her saying she is a visual artist, she is a performance artist, I'm an artist. Show it, don't tell it. As she said, stop the drama and start the music, but the music has not delivered. Hopefully, the vma performance will change my opinion.
