Ever since infamous Alejandro video tweet from Katy, they were both throwing subtle shade here and there (weird facial expressions at the VMAs, Tara+gaga shady tweets). They don't wanna seem immature and childish and they don't want there to be drama between fanbases, that's why they're keeping up this fake friendship thing. Alejandro was one situation, if they were enemies they wouldn't be seated next to each other it would of been changed. In fact Katy agreed with Gaga's statement against pitting artists against each other, and making it about the music.
