Didymus 34,379
Lady Gaga's 'Applause' Leaks, Fans Launch Anti-Piracy Campaign "Katy Perry wasn't the only pop star to have her upcoming single leak this weekend. Several snippets of Lady Gaga's new song "Applause," set to be released on Aug. 19, also showed up online. Gaga ranted about the leak on Twitter but her fans responded by reporting links to streams and illegal downloads, a fairly unusual reaction. Shortly after the leaks began, Gaga tweeted, "Lord, in HEAVEN WHY" and "YOU JUST COULDNT WAIT THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR ONE SATURDAY" Gaga later wrote, "Don't worry. THE HAUS BUREAU is on the case.-TechHaus" indicating that her team was getting to work removing the leaked track. Thousands of fans also condemned the leak and started providing links to a portal set up by Gaga's label, Universal Music, where people can report sites hosting a leaked track, TorrentFreak reports. Gaga even retweeted one of her fans' anti-piracy tweets: @ladygaga @DJWS Report all the #APPLAUSE leaks to this website: http://privacypolicy.umusic.com/piracy/ please and thank you #TrueMonster #MonstersUnite Other fans bragged about reporting links to Universal, with one claiming to have reported more than 500 links to the label. TorrentFreak does note that many of Gaga's fans probably listened to the few seconds of her new single before reporting the link, but a leak like this one really just generates interest in hearing the whole track." Source: The Hollywood Reporter, August 12, Article by Hilary Lewis ______ So, what do you think of the fans' "unusual reaction"? Like Gaga retweeted, are the "#TrueMonsters" truly the ones who condemn the leaks? Should fans of an artist condemn leaks or celebrate them? Let's keep the comments in this thread on-topic, please. There will be no discussion about the snippets themselves, unless they are relevant to the article above

Weasel 12,525
What's so unusual about the reaction? Once it's on the internet it's doomed to be spread. Of course fans are going to spread it, everyone's thirsty and can't wait anymore.
AlexanderMagno 10,746
It shows a lot of respect for the artist. Right now, I'm extremely proud for being a Little Monster.
MoonBeat 0
Everyone that says they haven't listen to the leaks are lying.
Bye 3,947
I think it's fairly unusual, yes. Leaks are bound to happen in the music industry. Never bothered anyone much. They won't hurt Gaga tbh.
Didymus 34,379
You misunderstood. The unusual reaction is that fans are reporting the links and "don't want to hear them". Sableye 574
i think this trend really shows how powerful gaga is. if someone calls her fat, she can start a body revolution and if someone leaks her ****, she can get her fans to report the leaks. PoshLife 16,973
I listened to the leaked snippets, and like the article says, it just made me want the full, high-quality song MORE. I'm definitely buying it the moment it comes out. If that makes me a fake monster or whatever, fine by me haha. I just like the music is all!
bananahammock 1
it's one thing reporting small snippets but if the full song leaks it'll be next to impossible to get rid of - it'll be everywhere
Didymus 34,379
Very true. Quite scary, actually i think this trend really shows how powerful gaga is. if someone calls her fat, she can start a body revolution and if someone leaks her ****, she can get her fans to report the leaks. Weasel 12,525
You misunderstood. The unusual reaction is that fans are reporting the links and "don't want to hear them". My bad. In that case, everyone was still spreading it like crazy
AURA 2,890
Not listening to leaked song doesn't make you a better monster or a real one. I think that everyone (including Gaga and Interscope) knows that once something leaked you can't remove it completely from the Internet. + all the leaks are their fault. They should've protected Applause as they protected Born This Way.
garnite 8
i wonder how many fans are outwardly rallying against the link to impress or emulate gaga?
