I'm getting a bit of a retro vibe from it and I understand just from the snippets how it sounds a bit like an old school nintendo. I thought this was supposed to be about the future and possibilities? I dunno, I was expecting a massive song with tons of crazy beats everywhere and judging from the little we have (which may not be an indication at all), it doesn't quite seem that way. But I'll have to wait for the full song to know for sure! Also worried that it so far seems to be focusing so much on the art world and performance, and it's kind of hard to relate to when you're just an average joe and not Gaga, you know? I was thinking the same thing. Because people buy songs if they relate to real life situations. We just have to wait and see I guess. In a way, we all live for the APPLAUSE. We all want to be seen doing good. That's probably why the blogger says mute. It's not as straight forward as Bad Romance or say Just Dance. Just by the title you can tell what the meaning behind the would be. But as a title like the APPLAUSE, you'll have to find the meaning as to what the APPLAUSE would mean in your life situation. For example, Gaga never said ARTPOP was futuristic. Also, artists write about why they feel or experience. Is a big misconception that artists are suppose to be ralatable.
