American Horror Story: Coven

How long after Asylum ended was Coven (or at least the theme) announced?

I think the Liza Minnelli quote was on purpose, either because she's guest starring in next season or more likely an hommage to her character in Cabaret. Speaking of singing divas with germanic lineage, the mention of The Sound of Music is also interesting.

Ryan Murphy hasn't denied the rumors about Circus, he said no one has guessed it completely. He also said it would be bizarre, crazy and gothic, set mainly in the 1950s and there would be the same sort of comedic tone as Coven but is overall radically different from anything they've done.

It might still be about communism but if set in a circus, you would have ground for unsettling scary stuff AND campy humor. Maybe it's a travelling circus serving as a cover for a communist party?

Whatever it will be, they have to bring back Zachary Quinto, I need those brows in my life again.

I'm not quite sure why Zoe was ruled out post-resurrection. I mean, it's not like she failed a seven wonder, she just had an unfortunate translocation. Vitalis costs life force and if she's dead, she obviously has no life force to spend to bring herself back so it's not like she can be ruled out on that?
Also, Queenie had elephant earrings so maybe a circus reference?

Poor Misty... Would have preferred if she was switched around with Zoe in that end, as Zoe felt to me as the most characterless character in Coven, a total non-entity while Misty was charming (and better acted).

Overall, I'm happy Fiona actually got an ending, even though it was a sad one! A nice ending to a very... Inconsistent series!

Also, Madison being OP then dying by being strangled by a random guy... When she can flip a bus, manipulate minds to do things and set fire to things is... A bit 'oh she's powerful, but we need her to die THIS way, so let's just ignore that fact'. It felt like a waste, really.

In terms of this seasons over arching plot points they really dropped the ball. The feud between Salem Witches and Voodoo practicers was interesting and built up to be indomitable, but the feud was so quickly abandoned. The Witch Hunters were painted out to be a truly threatening antagonist, only to be killed with one flick of Fiona's fingers. So then they wrap things up by pretending the entire season was about finding a new Supreme - and frankly I wasn't left giving a **** about who was going to be the new Supreme. You can tell they were preoccupied trying to think of a way to turn Coven into a spin off, rather then developing the potential of the mini series. So many missed opportunities. Then again - what the hell do I know?

I agree with all of this.

The Sound of Music reference was a joke about the network musical that was on around the holidays

And tbh all the moments when she sings in Cabaret it's already creepy

I know Kyle was wasted this season, but seriously, he was anything but random. :smh:

Anyways, I think the reason she didn't do anything to stop was because she actually thought he'd succumb to her [terrible] little speech and crocodile tears. Had he actually, I fully believe she would have killed him then. And while, she does have powerful capabilities, she did just throw a fit and was begging for her life, so I don't think her magical powers were the first thing she thought of while Kyle started choking her to begin with.

We'll never know. Either way, it being a stupid or not, I'm glad she died. Madison was the epitome of a character who grates on my nerves.

Side note, I'm pretty sure the whole Fiona waking up in a tiny little shack was a clue for the next season.

Someone on tumblr stated that the wood she mentioned while walking around was common building material during the Great Depression. I'm not sure if the Depression lasted well into the 50's, but it does make sense with Jessica brushing up on her German accent and all.

Kyle, like Zoe, just felt like a screen-time-filler to me. Hence the 'random' comment.

He felt like a waste of a character. Both his previous American Horror Story characters, from the absolutely disgusting creature that was Tate and the tragic character that was Kit, were so much more compelling and interesting to watch and Evan Peters is an amazing actor. I honestly don't think I've loathed a TV character more than I did Tate Langdon and his performance was magnificent.

Kyle was... Zombie-crush-romance.

Well, that's what happens when you throw a popular actor into a season that's meant as 'women power'. The season itself is lacking and honestly, any back story we got on the characters was little to none.

Overall, this season was the worst and I'm hoping season four will bring back the creepiness and 'what the ****' moments that I loved from Murder House and Asylum.

(I'm gonna ignore your comment about Tate being disgusting)

In spite of its weak plot, I loved every super gay and astonishingly camp episode of American Horror Story: Coven.

Patti Lupone forcibly douche her son and a morbidly obese African American chick flicking her clit for a minotaur were the highlights for me.

Balenciagaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I agreeeeeee. The plot holes were obvious, like when Zoe and Kyle were supposed to run away, only to come back first thing next episode. I did enjoy the campy parts and the fashion moments though.
