In my opinion, the single artwork for Applause combines the name of ARTPOP into a beautiful portrait. For me, I see the painting as a representation of the ART component of the album's name. Her face is splatted with paint, a canvass etc etc. In turn, the song itself will be the POP component of the album, hence merging ART and POP together to create ARTPOP.
