Its symbolic of an entire country though. People are always proud to be from X country. Although it may just be a sheet of cotton, to people it may symbolize so much more. The flag represents a history and a culture.

What if someone were to burn down a house? It doesn't have feelings. You're still burning someone's home. It can't be disrespected. A flag is a representation of a home in a way.

Although it shouldn't be a crime, it is rather disrespectful to brush it off the stage like that. At the BTWB, Gaga held it up and gave it to a dancer to take it off stage. That's respectful to one's culture. Although you may not take offense, many do.

yes the concept is dumb, but flags are highly protected symbols in many countries, its like the biggest representation of the country, in some places it is illegal just to let it touch the ground

 

as dumb as the concept is, it is a crime, that offended many, he didnt just wipe the floor with cotton, he wiped the floor with Argentina, and theres no valid excuse, thats how it works, as dumb as it is

but it's not disrespectful. i can't believe anyone in their right mind seriously thinks that it's more disrespectful to sweep a flag off a stage than a scarf or a shirt. it's all the same thing. and it's a really stupid thing that people have been taught to be offended by. i know all about the symbolic nature of countries and flags and what really disrespecting it would be. disrespecting it would be burning an effigy with a statement against argentinian politics or something. moving it off a stage where he is likely to trip over it because someone with not much sense projected it towards him is not disrespect.

the house comparison is mind numbing. i'm sorry, but you can't be serious. a house is an expensive piece of personal property. someone gave up their property of a worthless piece of fabric by chucking it right at him. and he slid it across the stage. big. deal.

You dont have to have a sense of nationalism with a flag,just deal with the fact people are proud of their country and display it through a flag. I'm not the biggest fan of flags and their symbolism (its kinda form of nationalistic propaganda) but I at least RESPECT that people have pride in their country through flags. Its SYMBOLIC.

EDIT: you just seem insensitive to the views of others that contradict yours, especially religion. So I can see this going nowhere.
