Monsters will get bored of either watching the video or refreshing the page. Hopefully, following the VMAs, the GP will be interested in checking the video. let's be real. Monsters alone can't get these kind of views. IF we could, then LoveGame, TEOG and You and I would be way past 100m already. They made lots of posts that hyped the idea of it beating the record before it actually did and even said things like "not much time left, Directioners, make it count!" Now, someone here said that because they're not doing this sort of hype for Gaga, then she can't have broken the record. But this is 1D we're talking about here. Their entire career is built on hype and getting girls under the age of 18 excited to the point of deliriousness. Of course VEVO are going to exploit their crazed fangirlishness and encourage lots of hits on their site by whipping up lots of hysteria. But for Gaga, they know that she's got lots of older fans who are wise to these kind of marketing ploys and they know she doesn't need hype because the whole world always pays attention to a Gaga video whereas no one outwith 1D's fanbase cares about them. Gaga tweeting to them just as she was on the record makes it seem as if they all know something we don't know. And here was a tweet I found just before the 24 hours were up on 1D's video: "Directioners! You have 1.5 hours left. Finish strong! Views take a few days to calculate." That was from VEVO's official twitter just before they broke the record. This is VEVO outright saying that the views take a few DAYS to calculate. Yes, they got them the next day and we've crossed over into two days, but that looks like it just means that we have broken the record and it's taking a while to process.
