VIDEO: Gaga Sings National Anthem at NYC Pride

Yeah, her vibrato is great; there's no doubt about that. However, you can tell that she's really pushing those C#5s, which isn't too bad considering she's a Mezzo-Soprano and shouldn't even be hitting that note, but it could easily strain her voice. Like I said, technique. Just because you can sin it, doesn't mean you should. 

 

There are plenty of mezzo's that can safely go higher (Beyonce's sustained very nice and healthy F5's, but you can hear her comfort zone is more towards the fourth octave than the fifth but she can belt as high as she does because of great technique), but yeah, Gaga still needs to develop her head voice and mix better. I don't know if she sounds this good on those notes because she's had a lot of rest or if she's really further solidified her technique, but she's doing better than she was while she was touring.

 

I think Gaga's doing way better than Christina Aguilera, for example. Have you heard the quality of Christina's C#5 when she sang the national anthem (and a lot of her live performances of Beautiful)? Strained, squeezed, and way off pitch. Gaga still has a long way to go, but it's exciting to hear that she's improved (or at least that her voice is in a better condition).

Which is why I wrote this. I wanted to know if people would think she sounded good. (befor she actualy sang it lol) So did she surprise you? or did she do like you thought she would?

 

She definitely exceed my expectations. I knew she could have pretty decent ease with those notes after her live performances of You and I, but the overall control, pitch stability, and tone quality have improved a lot.

Personally It def beat my expectations. I thought she would sound like how she does singing Btw on the piano. But it was way more powerfull. which I like

The difference is that we both know that Beyonce is in the higher end of a Mezzo, being able to hit C6 (although kinda weak). However, Gaga is in the lower end. She hits lower notes with ease, but she places a lot of the sound on her throat past B5. I can agree with the Xtine part though, and I agree that Gaga has improved.
