I was expecting a top 3 debut for 1D. Honestly not surprised that they missed the top since their iTunes reign didn't last very long and Robin continues to plow through radio.

BL has a 35% lead in overall chart points over 1D this week :deadbanana:

It hasn't broken the radio record on BDS yet, but it should next week.

212.2 million, "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey (July 9, 2005)
207.4 million, "Blurred Lines," Robin Thicke (featuring T.I. + Pharrell) (Aug. 10, 2013)
196.3 million, "Irreplaceable," Beyonce (Jan. 20, 2007)
192.4 million, "No One," Alicia Keys (Dec. 22, 2007)
189.6 million, "Let Me Love You," Mario (Feb. 5, 2005)

I'm pretty sure Interscope is paying out the ass to get Blurred Lines played so much so it can beat Mariah's record. I expect once it passes her it'll start dropping like a rock.

That makes no sense. Why would they take a loss and pay radio stations just to break a record that no one besides chart watchers will care about?

I'd think Katy's single would come before Gaga's considering her album is but we all know Katy wouldn't mind outshining Gaga

Ugh an Aug 26 release would suck. I hope its before the 19th.

The 8/13 Roar date is fake btw.

I knew something was fishy about a radio release coming several days before the single release. As if Capitol, who clearly have a religious devotion to charts and sales as evidenced by the stunts they pulled with Katy's last album, would give people a chance to illegally download it and forget to buy it later.

35% gap is actually a lot less than i was expecting. I think Gaga's sales and streaming could close that gap.

I really hope gaga gets #1.

1D got #2 with 322k sales, 7,9m streaming and 11m AI.

Gaga should do a lot better in sales and AI. I don't know about streaming though.

**** Robin, just takeover Mariah already. I'm sick of waiting tbh.

And only 35%???? Wow, 1D took a HUGE chunk out of BL. If they managed to do that with only 320k sales and low airplay, Gaga should have no problem getting #1. Now I'm starting to wonder why we're all so worried, lol. Now with the music video coming on the same day, it's a guaranteed #1.

Meanwhile, I really hope Katy releases before Gaga. That way, she'll weaken BL, and then Gaga can come and blow them both away.

Do you guys think we're getting the single & the video the same day because they're worried she won't be able to reach #1?

I think that probably has more to do with the UK release since it will probably be on-air-on-sale like "BTW"; they don't want to risk it not hitting #1 over there. In the US, songs have a good chance to hit #1 later if they don't right away, unlike the UK. I don't think they planned the video release around the American charts tbh.
